hello.

so i went away for a week and left my computer to be used by my little brother. ao i assume this is all his fault. for some reason when i plug my moniter into my graphics card my monitor goes to sleep. im useing a NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE. can any one help?

Do you mean it goes to stand by? As in the computer will not post? If it wont post try resetting the bios. What is your system specs all the way down to your psu and monitor type? Are you running Dual monitors? Does your video card have dual hook ups? Like 2 DVI ports. Or one VGA port and one DVI port?

Also it may not be nothing he did. You have an older video card, and I am assuming an older pc. Unless he actually touched something on the inside I doubt very much he did anything to it but play some games. Ask him if he was trying to overclock the video card or was messing around with the bios settings. The chances are slim, but still present, that he was the unlucky soul that your computer crapped out on

If he was messing with the bios settings a simple clearing of the bios will solve this.

hmm ok im not so great with computers lol. heres what i know. the back of my pc has 2 moniter points the one it came with then the oen for my video card. the one it came with works fine but when i plug it into the video card the moniter only goes to sleep.

do you hear the booting sound?

also try cleaning your comp

It sounds like you have a VGA monitor and when you plug it in to your motherboard VGA port it still works but when you plug it in to the VGA port on your video card it goes kablooey.

First, do a straight reinstall of your video card. If you have your original CD, great go ahead and turn your computer off. Take the video card out, turn the computer back on and make sure it's removed in hardware (Right click on My Computer, go to Properties, Hardware Tab, Device Manager Button and expand Display Adapters. Make sure your video card isn't there, if it is, right click on it and go to Uninstall.

Once that's all done. Shut off your computer again, and reinstall your video card all over again. If you don't have your original CD, luckily your monitor still works plugged into your computer. So run over to your video card manufacturer website (BFG, EVGA, etc.) and grab drivers. You can also grab more generic drivers from nvidia here http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_186.18_whql.html

Once you have everything installed, restart, plug the monitor into the video card and see if it works.

If not, there are a couple things to try here. If you have access to another computer, plug the video card in there and see if it works after an install. You can also try a different AGP / PCI-E slot if you have one but that's probably not the problem. Also a long shot, but in Control Panel -> Power Options, make sure you have your monitor set to never turn off.

Just plug it in to the one that it came with.
You don't need to plug it in to the video card unless you get another one.
I believe you have an HP Pavilion, cause thats what I have.
Your video card will still be working if you plug it into the one it came with.

You can try what the above poster said and let us know if it works, but gathering from what you have said, you have tried this already. From my experience if out of no where the video card stops responding, well 90% of the time that means it just died, or is on its way out the door :(

If the video card wont even show the post display I doubt very much it will work. Unless somehow your brother disabled a bios setting that turns the integrated card back on.

Can you tell us what brand and series number your pc is?
Do you know how to look in your bios to see if it has the disable/enable setting for integrated graphics?
Can you check inside of your pc to make sure the video card is all the way in the slot?
Can you see if your video card is covered in dust?
Is your 6150LE the fanless version?
Can you tell us what your brother said about it?
Did he tell you right away, or was he hesitant?
Did he tell you what he was doing when it happened?
How long has the 6150LE been in your pc?
One final question, did you install the 6150LE yourself, or did someone else do it for you?

Exactly what I did when I had problems with my video, do what ratfire said. Reinstall it then try that. I couldn't have said it better myself.
