Portable HardDrive recommendations

my last one died and im starting a new term at collage and need something big to bring stuff back and forward.

so this is what is needed

~1 TB Storage
FireWire and USB interfaces
Must be extremely reliable and not cost too much.

if it would be more cost effective i might go with 2 500 GB's

I prefer WD drives... now.

I've had a bad year with Seagate 7200.11 so far this year (lost 3 so far in customer computers)

ok it's pretty on par with the LaCie one i was look at but about 50$ cheaper for the 1tb one.

If you have an internal hard drive make and model you really like you can make your own external using an enclosure:

You just pop your HD's into it and plug-n-play - great if you have a lot a various HD's laying around ~

i dont really want to go the route of an harddrive encloseure because i need this thing to be fairley tough so im thinking im going to find the reviews on the mybooks and maybe check out some Lacie ones.

be careful with them... I had a 400GB one and the drive blows... went out after a short while. My roommate had like a 500GB one and he started having problems too. I would avoid em
