The main topic of discussion for this Sunday is "Online Gaming Harassment"

This event recently transpired (Click Herrre) and it inspired me to want to discuss it.

It's another perfect opportunity to plug Edge Gamers, so I need the fine people of eGO to come represent and be a part of the discussion.

Sunday night from 8p-9p Central. The chat room can be accessed from the usual IRC login to the eGO room. Just /join #meteor

Taking this road for "gays" is simply drawing attention to themselves, and as any gamer knows, that's not ALWAYS a good thing...

Gamers can be ruthless - that whole, i see you digitally only thing makes it so much easier to be so.

Nobody is out to blast gays (or any other group for that matter) in gaming. 99% of people play games to have fun and relax, not deal with yet another layer of political correctness that we see at the water cooler every day.

The article and the discussion on that link is just competently screwed up and over blown.
Like instead of just a useless rant about how gay people are being treated online and in the gaming community we need to get the the bigger issue of self and mutual respect and see that were all human beings. After that the issues of sexual preference, sex, race, religion wont matter.

You're right on track bullets.

The event (not the article) was the spark, but the big issue is how people use anonymity as an excuse to berate and threaten other players.

Gaming online is about fun and competition. Race, sexual preference, religion, political views, these things should be meaningless.

If a homosexual atheist Neo-Nazi beats me in TF2 and tells me good game without spouting off about his beliefs, I'll be none the wiser and willing to go for a rematch.

That is what I want to discuss, so I hope to see everyone in the chat tonight.

Bang on bullets. And we have rules covering this. I think the reason for the deal tonight is so we can point out this fact. "Plug for eGO" as previously stated.

Ya I just thought that needed saying because when I read the stuff on the link it was a bunch of people ranting more about the symptoms of this issue such as the derogatory terms and and people needing show tolerance. It seemed that they are were really missing the bigger issue and the cause of all these smaller things. Which the real issue of respect and treating people firstly like humans. Which covers a lot more than the whole homophobia thing it covers the whole spectrum of stuff like hate crimes, sexism, racism, and issues of religion, politics and bigotry.

and the beginning was the part that lagged out, so I will spend the rest of the night pondering my existence and how meaningless it is now that I shall never enjoy the start of the show.

Any plans on increasing the bandwidth/fixing whatever the problem was tonight?

Maybe something like JustinTv/Ustream, etc.. :O
