virus help

ok so i found i had a trojan on my pc. my virus scanner (mcafee) found it. it was quartined and i selected to remove the infected file. does that mean the virus is gone as well?

Remove usually does mean delete. But i wouldn't trust Mcafee. You should get spybot Serach and destroy too. Also, a Trojan isn't really a virus. A trojan just sends messages from your computer to somewhere else, While a virus kills your computer.

lol i consider ot a virus cause its not good for your pc. what exactly does a trojan do?

Trojan virus is defined as "malicious, security-breaking program that is disguised as something benign". Say you download a file, but it is fake it unleashes this virus into your computer. While this virus is in your computer it attacks other computers while your are not knowing it. It is as if someone has hijacked your computer. I personally do not use McAfee because it has let in virus that wipe my memory. I use AVG Free 8.5 It's a free virus scanner that works great.

well actually Trojans are disguised as something else and are used to open holes in your systems security to allow the maker of the Trojan to remotely access your computer.

they got the name because of the Trojan hoarse which you should know the story of if you know any mythology

If I were you I'd run a TrendMicro virus scan.

It's free and online so it's less likely to be altered or manipulated by malware on your machine.

Once you run that free scan, download AVG, Spybot as mentioned above, and I'd also get Ad Aware by Lavasoft.

All of the above are also free.

I would suggest a new Virus protection plan... Mcafee has a bad rep for being terribad...

I use NOD32. My dad's employer owns it, so I think if it's good enough for a Nuclear Power Plant, I think it's good enough for me.

What you can do, is try to manually remove them in Safe Mode.

i know of a way to remove them. you will need to back up any uninfected files you want(on a flash drive or disc). use system Recovery and select to restore your PC to factory settings. This will Remove everything from your pc and reinstall the default programs. makes it like it was when you first bought it.

I'd suggest running both Combofix and Avenger. They are both free and very minimal programs, but are for the more advanced users. These are not antivirus replacing programs, just virus/rootkit removal programs.

Malbytes Anti-Malware.

Most of the commercial anti-virus and anti-spyware stuff out there is total crap, so I'll never trust them completely. However, I've been pretty much infection free for years running S&D, Malbytes, and Generic Anti-virus from Generically big company.

You guys should search up SUPER ANTI-SPYWARE and AVG 8.5 its what i use. They dont fight against each other and they are both mad good. I would suggest it. MacAfee is SOOO BAD it doesnt help. My friend Has 2021318293017 virus' on his comp and he has MacAfee so yea...
