xbox 360 breaks fixs?

well one of my xbox 360s has the very popular RROD. and one of my friends that his warranty is out so he asked me to see if i could fix it. i used the penny trick and the towel trick and neither worked anybody know any other fixs?

and another one of my xbox 360s has the error E74 and the cause is "This problem occurs when the Xbox 360 console experiences a general hardware failure." thats what was on xbox.com anybody know any fixs without having to send it in?
 
uh, isn't RROD covered forever?


I'd try someone local that can work on it or just buy a new console period.
 
I've fixed my old xbox with the RROD, it required these steps

1) Take entire console apart, take heat sinks and every thing off(youtube how to take one apart)

2) there are 2 x clips on the bottom of the board that pop off, with some force, i used a screw driver.

3) Now clean the old heatsink compound off the cpu and gpu and the bottom of the heat sinks.

4) Apply new compound enough to cover entire chips.

5) put everything back together, make sure the capicatiors arent touching the heatsinks aswell when putting everything back in place.

6) Turn it on, make sure every part is back where it should be, needs to be properly cooled, ( they have a sort of flawed design not the best set up but need to be set up right because it will turn its self off if it heats up just a little bit to much)

7) turn it back on and it should be alright, leave it going for a while and play a game for an hour or so.


i know its sort of vauge, but if you need any help you can pm me, i have an electronics degree so messsing with this stuff is second nature to me :D.

but that would void the warranty and RROD will be fixed for free even if your warranty expired. Your lucky it was that, I had a none RROD error and cost me $150 to fix
 
Blackhawk, you know there's no 'fix' for RROD. You could have said it RROD and it would have been free. :P

You will see repair console on there.
 
I can tell you a way to do it that I found to work perfectly.
I took the 360 threw it out of the window. Went out and bought me a 160gb PS3. :)
 
You're going to laugh when I suggest this, but it really works.

1)Take the console in both hands, and extend it before you with your elbows slightly bent.
2)Stand on one leg, and raise the other to roughly waist height.
3)Close your eyes and say a quick prayer to the XBox gods, then open your eyes.
4)With your knee at waist height, firmly grasp the XBox 360 and with a sharp and sudden force, bash it on your knee three times. I recommend that you hit the ends of the console for best results.
5)Replace the XBox on the shelf (or other surface) and scream your favorite obscenity at it, making sure to direct it toward the console. For example, "I'm so really mad right now" will not work, because the XBox won't hear it.
6)Plug the console back in, and observe your results.

In my history of using this technique, it works more often than it doesn't. However, if it breaks don't blame me. Use this technique if your back is against the wall and you can't have it repaired. It's worked on most of the consoles I've done it to, and BlackMesaSouth has done it to his sucessfully. (Truthfully, he's the inspiration for developing this technique)

i have a PS3 also a Wii and by far my favorite is my xbox so thats why i want to get it fixed and i sent in my other one so now i just wait
 
When i fixed mine i had no warrenty on it, bought it second hand from eb games but microsoft said they dont cover it if its second hand, so thats why i took it apart lol. Its a last resort thing but dose work most of the time. If you have the warrenty go to microsoft, if not try any thing to get it to work haha.
 
DO NOT use the towel or penny trick it is not the wises thing. i had the e74 glitch send it back to microsoft they will extend the warenty 3years for free and send you a reshrbished xbox or you can open it VOIDING the warenty to fix it by reatcching the xclamp and the heat selint
