DosBox?

Anyone else enjoy using the DOSBox emulator to run their favorite old DOS games?

Playing older games really shows one how far the game industry has fallen. The quality of many games is only a fragment of what it used to be. There are still many great games, but quite a few just cover their flaws with fancy graphics. Sadly this covering up "lack of gameplay" Works like a charm, and can market a bad game, as better than a great old game.

I'm glad we still have emulators like DOSBox, so younger generations can still enjoy the greatest classics of all time... (I am not saying current games can't be classics, but we'll have to wait a few years before we really know) If they can get past the lack of graphics, and play based upon gameplay, rather than graphics.

I still haven't seen any games beat out the Descent series. We need another "6-axis of freedom!" game, or an RTS that beats Total Annihilation in resource systems, and playability, or a Mechwarrior spiritual successor that is actually a simulator rather than a lame arcade game, that barely resembles the original.

ya i use dosbox and i also have virtualbox set up with a dos 5.x virtual machine.

I use Dosbox for one thing...

I've never gotten DosBox games to work very well.

Tried Elder Scrolls: Arena a while back, kept locking up and generally crashing.

Daggerfall just went free, though, so I might try popping that open and seeing if it'll run.

Bethesta has a very very good tutorial for getting Daggerfall to run. I am already experienced with the DOS command system in DOSbox, but I used the tutorial anyway, and it was extremely detailed. It would be impossible to do anything wrong while following it.

Livedosgames

Guys if you like DOS games you should get "LiveDOSGames" its a LiveCD that works like an OS and you can put it on a CD or a USB stick www.livedosgames.com

I like DOSBOX. I use it for games like Wolfenstien 3d (still like booting up that game every so often) Rise Of The Triad (AWESOME WEAPONS, and great multiplayer) Duke Nukem 3d (Best. Shooter. Ever. Made) and Doom (fun game). But for games like Quake, Hexen II, and other advance 3D games on DOS, I try to find special XP versions for them.

DOSBOX is a good tool.

For Doom, use jDoom. You get mouse support and a little more honed graphics, it's awesome. I think DN3D has a same kind of project going on as well.
