FYI nVidia Users: 190.38 Caution Advised

Hey everyone, I felt this was important to state as soon as possible.

nVidia just released their new 190.38 WHQL certified drivers.
These drivers appear to have serious glitches to them, across multiple platforms.

So far, I am experiencing glitches in Windows 7 with significantly reduced FPS (From average 100 normally, down to 7-12 with these drivers), right before the monitor and video card go out of sync.
These drivers are also effecting my ability to watch video with WMP and MPC.

On nVidia's forums, there are confirmed issues with users in Windows XP SP3.

I am not saying that everyone will experience these issues, but please be cautious with these drivers, and good luck.
 
No Prob but realize that Win 7 even its RC format will not be fully supported yet by nvidia. Also reading over the release highlights and patch notes you see the Win 7 32 or Win 7 64 bit are exactly the same as the Vista drivers even in size. Just my thoughts.

Aside from that thanks for the heads up. I am using 182.50 which is back from april.Since my machine runs like a beast I never thought of getting them update. Ill try out 186.18 and see how they are. They are the ones before 190.
 
I got the latest driver for my card a few days ago. I have seem some performance decrease, but not seriously. I don't know if it is connected to this.
 
Also just installed 186.18. Havent played any games but I remember why I never updated the drivers for my video card. I run dual monitor set up. One is my main 19in reg 1280x1024 monitor and the second is my 19in wide 1440x900 monitor. For some reason all the new drivers flip the main screen to where the 2nd monitor is at and the 2nd monitor space to my main. It annoyed the crap out of me. I even checked my windows settings and bios. It detected my Main as Number 1 and 2nd monitor as Number 2 but not nvidia. I had to invert, resize,write code, design a flux capacitor, and go back in time to tell nvidia to shape up with their drivers. lol.

No I just inverted the monitor settings in the control panel. going to try a game now. If the game doesnt come out in the main monitor I am going to be pissed and order an ATI and write an angry letter not email to nvidia. :P
 
It's fine for me. Though now that I'm thinking about it tf2 lagged a bit more than before. But no crashing and counter strike is fine.
 
I've had problems with this including strange flickering in ALL games followed by a crash. NOT ADVISED!

Something to consider, Snake:

I've seen something that sounds similar with other drivers in certain games before. In that case, I had to disable the SLi link in my GTX 295, which was the known conflict with the drivers on various forums.

If you don't have SLi, than this resolution doesn't apply. If you do, try disabling it for the games in question.
 
Ugh, every other set of drivers nvidia releases I have nothing but problems with.
 
Ever since i got the drivers for my NVDIA 7800 gt It has dropped 100 fps in a map, ty for the info
 
I've actually seen a slight increase in performance, but only in folding and other CUDA apps; no performance change in games.
 
I always have let windows update them for me, everytime i have downloaded a update from nvidia i have these kind of issues. Just because they come out with a update does not mean you have to update the driver. Not unless it's to fix some major issue with a past driver. Just a thought.

true but with every update nvidia usually improves performance in most games and further matures the SLI drivers.

190 has issues with XP SP3?

THIS IS VERY BADDDDD!

I just got 190 on my XP machine, no wonder why STALKER clear sky isn't running perfect on my 9800GT. Of course going into driver settings, then setting texture quality to Performance did the trick. I don't overclock, due to the fact my machine's gettin older.

Gee, the only time that I do a driver update, is if they post performance increases on games, but most of the time, the performance increases are on games I don't even own. I remember that last year, I couldn't even use the 3D settings without crashing the NVIDIA control Panel, locking up the computer for 2 minutes before it fixed itself. And I had a great system for XP at the time. It took almost a year to get a driver update to fix that crap.

So, NVIDA products= Great, NVIDA drivers= Not so great.

I am experiencing an issue with Widnows 7 RC and this driver, where whenever i try to open windows explorer via IE or any internet browser (i.e. saving files, uploading, etc.) whenever I try to navigate to the desktop explorer.exe crashes.

I know this is from the drivers because I had similar issues with the ones before 190.38 (the 180's)

no problems for me yet im still getting use to the new windows 7 but I have a problem with the fps once but it seamed to fix itself
