Definately go with Wakka's suggestion with Skype. Or you could pretty much use any other messenger for that matter. Just make sure you've both got headsets (very cheap), boot up Yahoo (or skype), call her computer and talk for as long as you want absolutely free.

The biggest challenge for most probably won't be communication, it'll be being more than every other guy, from 1,000+ miles away.

My 2 cents on this situation comes from prior experience...once a long term relationship is established, it is both hard and akward when back together. It was difficult to let her go but I did and, in the long run, worked out for me. To each his own, I'd say.
