As several people have said, it really depends on the situation. If they type over chat "Do you want to knife?" or something of the sort and I agree, I will knife fight them. But if there is no message prior to the knife-age, I'll pretend to knife then shoot them with my pistol

I would shoot unless they ask previous to assaulting me with a knife. Not for an easy kill, but they left themselves vulnerable and they deserve to be taught a lesson for not asking first, ;D
