just recently upgraded my fathers motherboard. it is a gigabyte ma770-ud3.

the problem is that i have a sata hard drive that isnt being recognized by the bios. i can boot into windows because i have an ide hard drive as the primary. in windows, it doesnt pick up the sata drive either.

my question is what do i need to do to get the BIOS to recognize the sata hard drive. im at a loss. please help!

Under integrated periphreals in your BIOS make sure OnChip SATA controller is set enabled and OnCHIP SATA type is set to IDE not AHCI or RAID.

Don't plug it into port 4 or 5.

i assume its being recognized now. but now the ide hard drive with windows on it is not being recognized

Go to advanced BIOS features, select hard disk boot priority, and make sure your IDE hard disk has boot priority over the SATA one.

there is no hard drive to select to boot from. when i look at the ide channel it lists my dvd drive, but no hard drive on the ide cable.

also no option to boot from the sata hd

Where is your IDE (boot) hard drive, on that IDE cable physically?
If it's using cable select, then you want it on the end of the cable, and throw the CD drive on the middle connector.
If you were to boot up and mash the F12 button, does it give you a temporary boot device list? If so, which drives are on there?

But other than that, I don't know squat about Gigabyte mobos - so you should get better luck following the other poster's suggestions.
