New PC build won't even start.

Well I just finished up my PC build and was pumped for the first boot and then when I hit the power button, I had 1 red light flash on the Mobo and the blue led's flash and nothing. The PSU didn't even start up (although I felt the PSU do something but it didn't kick on). I then went back and TRIPLE checked all my connections and tried again and still the same thing. This is my first build so there might be something I'm not seeing in the connections. If anyone can help me that would be awesome.

Specs:
Case: NZXT Apollo with 1 Extra 120MM Fan (Extra Fan greatly recommended)
PSU: Corsair VX 550W
Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz
Memory: G.Skill 4GB
Video Card: HIS Radeon HD 4850 512mb IceQ4 Turbo
Drivers: WD Caviar Black 640GB 7200RPM
Keyboard/Mouse: Normal Standard ones at the moment
Display: Hanns-G 19" Widescreen
 
Is there a noise from your motherboard at all?

Did you make sure you've got the flip switched the right way on your PSU?
 
that happend to me the 1st time but i realized that i forgot to plug in the cpu and all was good
 
have you checked your motherboard manual? you can probably find the error code in there for the lights.
 
Try removing sticks of RAM, one at a time and boot. Chances are you have a doa stick of RAM. Let's hope it isn't any of the other core components which are doa, harder to diagnose.

Good idea, some mobos have lights next to the components which indicate the status of the part. Check around your mobo when you boot to see which lights are coming up red.
 
my friend had the same problem, he forgot to plug in his PSU, his had 2 connectors for the PSU, so make sure you check that out
 
If the fan isn't even turning on in your PSU, then it sounds to me like you have a bad PSU.

The PSU should be able to turn on whether or not it's hooked up to the motherboard.

the old AT style that is true, no so with ATX.
 
Thanks Toasteddude! That helped me alot and I got my computer started finally! but now.... I have a new problem....

Well I finally got my computer working and I'm trying to install Vista HP 64bit OEM but when I get to the drivers it can't find my Hard Drive. I'm pretty sure my HDD is connected right. I have 4gb of Ram. My HDD is shown in the BiOS but not in vista. I have no other OS installed on it. The MB I'm using is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P. Can anyone help me on this? Maybe explain exactly where the HDD should go and what the settings for it should be in the BiOS and any other information that would help me greatly.

Did you buy the OEM install brand new or are you possibly using system restore disks that came with another computer?
 
you probably have to format the hdd, windows needs it to be i think ntfs format so it can be detected. it should ask you to format the drive on installation.

Thats the thing. How do I get vista to show the HDD. I tried installing drivers but they won't work but also i'm not using RAID.

Also, when you FIRST start installing Windows, does it say "hit F8 (or whatever) to install 3rd party raid or scsi drivers"?

If it does, and you are using a SATA drive, you may need to pop in the disc.
That happed to me just recently. I had to go find the RAID/SCSI drivers for my HD controller, get them on another computer, dig out an old USB floppy drive, enable "USB floppy drive" on the new system's BIOS... you get the idea.
