A New Monitor

Alright guys so I am in the process of buying a new motherboard and graphics card and I was wondering what are some good monitors out there? I am having a hard time choosing what to get. If you can help me decide at all please tell me =P

Samsung Syncmaster. They come in lots of shapes and sizes, but that's what all of the local gaming centers use, and what I use for my LAN parties. They're not awfully expensive or shiny, but the refresh rate is enough to make anyone happy, and they come in many models.

Generally if you're looking for a mid-range monitor like most of us are, anything from Samsung, LG, etc. are quite reliable. It starts to come down to preference at that point, in my opinion. Some people swear by HP but I myself have had a lot of issues with them and I love LG/ViewSonic.

If you're looking for something a step above that I'd recommend ViewSonic.

Despite my dad being an HP reseller, I wouldn't recommend an HP monitor either. It's what I use, and it works really well if you just want a cheap monitor. But if you have over $50 to burn (not sure on monitor prices, may be wrong) I'd go with something other than a mainstream computer company (like Dell or HP).

My Syncmaster came with a few dead pixels. I got it replaced a couple more times and they all had dead pixels. I'm stuck with a Syncmaster with 1 dead pixel now.

I admit I've noticed more dead pixels than usual in those monitors at Rose (the tech college I "work" at), but that might be because I've seen a good 50 of them, compared to the couple of other kinds of monitors they have.

My HP monitors have their backlights going out, and it's only been a year or two. Fullblast contrast, brightness, and NVIDIA's gamma setting are maxed, and it's still dark, and since I've maxed the gamma and contrast, the color saturation is being drowned out.

Actually... I just bought a 24.6" screen last week for $200 with free shipping. Its a Hanns-G with 3 year parts/labor warrenty. Works like a charm with 2ms latency and hdmi hooked up watching 1080p videos

That sounds like the SyncMaster T220 - the 20,000:1 contrast ratio is actually a dynamic contrast ratio, as should be obvious. It's static constrast ratio is 1000:1.

I have the same monitor, and I LOVE it. Not a single dead pixel anywhere and I've had it for about a year. This thing is beautiful. And probably a fair bit cheaper now than when I got it.

ok this monitor is made by hp , it is beautiful ! full hd support , 24 in , has a 5 ms responce tim opposed to usual 8 an is just great overall . I( compair the pic to apple monitors ! check it ouT .

Have a samsung t240, works awesome. Have my computer hooked up through dvi, my xbox360 through hdmi with the sound going through the monitor's digital out.

Only 2 minor let-downs
-It stretches the xbox's 1920x1080 onto the monitor's 1920x1200 pixels (no 1:1 pixel mapping), but it only gives jaggies on some of the older games. Guess you could blame microsoft as much as samsung for the problem though as they could make the xbox support 16:10 if they really cared.
-Doesn't support VESA mounts.

For that price you should definately go with a Samsung SyncMaster or something of the sort - such as the T220. 5ms isn't that great. 2ms is where it's at so far as response time.

And don't go for something just because it says "HD". High definition doesn't really apply to computer monitors, it's more applicable to television screens. It's all just resolution. If it's got a DVI cable, that's pretty much "high definition" as it gets so far as computer monitors, coupled with its resolution. The rest of your hardware will really define whether you can play blu-ray and the like.

I have a 22" samsung syncmaster and its great. I would go with the Asus 24" screen though because its fairly cheap for a screen that large, around 220 bucks at a 1920x1080 resolution. I would also recommend you get a fast GPU to support that resolution, something in the range of a 4850x2.

i wasnt stating it is hd , im stating that it has the best picture ive seen , only thing that can come close is apples monitors. 5 ms isnt waay great but it issnt the avg 8 ms , and im telling you his is a beter pic ,my buddy had a samsung syncmaster didnt look anything like this .
