Planning to buy headset

Do you have to get Turtle Beach? I bet there are better headsets than Turtle Beach offers.
 
go for a creative fatal1ty i have it its really comfy with the velvet earpads and the mic is good. or go for a plantronics gamecom 777
 
I thnk it was Lafinass a long time ago advised me to get seperate headphones and a mic... and I have never been more happy... I don't HAVE to wear my headphone to play and talk... I can use the speakers or the headphones and still have my mic.

I own the HD 280's as well, but I prefer my [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PC-350-Gaming-Headset/dp/B0012XFDWO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1249270213&sr=8-1"]PC 350[/ame] headset for many reasons. The HD 280's are studio monitor headphones which are very flat sounding (especially lacking bass), they represent exactly what the source transmits; unlike the PC 350, they don't have directional drivers for positional audio (which helps you hear spies de-cloak behind you), nor do they have a very high quality built-in mic. All this said, I am not really a fan of the sound quality of the PC 350 and I had to mod them to get them to really come alive. If you don't mind sacrificing sound for practicability, the PC 350 are a very good gaming headset.

The best sound comes from standalone headphones, for that I recommend the [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD555-HD-555-Audiophile-Headphones/dp/B0001FTVDQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249270574&sr=8-1"]HD 555[/ame] and [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD595-HD-595-Premier-Headphone/dp/B0001FTVE0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249270591&sr=1-1"]HD 595[/ame] which use the same positional audio driver as the PC 350, or the[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Denon-AHD1001K-On-Ear-Headphones-Black/dp/B000UPBQQC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249270609&sr=1-1"]Denon D1001K[/ame] which are closed headphones that will seal out background noise. The HD 280 are good headphones, but for a slightly higher price there are much better options out there.

I don't really recommend desktop mics because they tend echo when you use them in-game, especially with speakers being used as the output source. The [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Zalman-Microphone-Zm-Mic1-Sensitivity-Headphone/dp/B00029MTMQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1249271266&sr=1-1"]Zalman clip-on mic[/ame] would be a good choice, it's cheap, has decent sound quality, and does a good job of blocking out background noise.

I'm envious, those are great speakers. I couldn't fit the Z-2300's sub in my room so I went with its little brother, the Z4.

I happen to own the hpa2 and it is TOTALLY WORTH THE MONEY. Was by far the best investment in a headset that I have made. I had some junky Logitech headsets and I will NEVER go back to them for one. I highly recommend the headset!

Seriously... fata|1ty headsets are a JOKE.
If you've ever used some good headsets, like a Turtle Beach for example (they're not the best, but they're our sponsor and also are fairly good) you would never even think of mentioning a headset brand like that again.

I'm thinking about getting some Sennheiser headset, as they're the most top-of-the-line things I've read/seen/heard about and whatnot.

look for jvc ha-rx700 and a zalman clip on mic. headphones get rated as well as those costing 3 times as much by most audiophile forums.

I was holding off on not chiming in on the headset conversation. But hands down, if you can avoid it get a seperate mic and headphones, you will get more bang for you buck by far.

Ha-RX700 is an EXCELLENT CHOICE, however Canadians can't buy from buy.com which makes them a more expensive choice. I wouldn't say they get rated as well as headphones 3x more expensive. AD-700s by Audiotechnica will blow them away ~80 dollars USD.

My advice for a fellow Canadian is to see if they can grab one of the Sennheisers mentioned here or if you are willing to buy used check out head-fi.org eBay is also another great decision.

My personal recommendation, are the AD-700s but it's whatever you can afford.

I see lots of people saying the AD700's are just a smidge better than the harx700s, with some things on both being better than the other.

3x was me comparing the two with a bit of exaggeration on the price difference ;)
