heyy guys wondering if you can point me in the direction of some software to convert demos to usable formats and any good , preferably free software to work with said files.

if by demos you mean demo files from source and goldsrc games there is a built in console tool.

thats for tf2 but works with anysource game.

your half there bullet, i want to convert the source demo's I have to another format so i can then use them in a video editing suite and make a proper video of them all. hope that is more understandable

the stuff from that link or a screen cap program like fraps are pretty much the only ways of doing this because a source demo is not a video file it is just a file that contain instructions for the game engine to recreate what was recorded.

the nice part about using the method from the link is that you can make the vid with every setting maxed out even if your pc cant handle it and the fianl vid will still be smooth. it will just take forever and a day to record.


if you still cant figure it out after a few try you can send me the demos and i could covert them for ya and host them

off the top of my head, only thing i can think of is FRAPS. Can use that to record game footage directly.

You can convert from .DEM to .avi directly from your source game.

open up your source game and press SHIFT+F2, load up your movie and pause it when it's loaded. now go to console and type in "startmovie yourclipname avi". a screen will pop up to let you select which codec. now let it play. when it's done, go to console and type "endmovie"
