Graphics card problem?

For background, I am running:
Core 2 Duo, 2.4 Ghz
2 GB RAM
2x Nvidia 8800 GTS Video Cards, SLI Disabled (for now)

As of today, my computer has been crashing... the screen will suddenly turn pink, and the video signal will cut out. Then, within about 60 seconds the entire machine will simply restart. This happens almost entirely within games only, but has happened in Windows twice as well.

What could be the issue? Bad graphics card? Heat problem?

Please advise. I'd really prefer not to have to buy a new machine entirely....
 
I updated the drivers after the problem occurred a few times, and the issue did not resolve itself. Same problem on both the old drivers, and the new ones..... this leads me to believe that it's probably not a driver issue (but of course, I could be wrong...).
 
mmmm.....r u overclocking??, you could try reading the temps of the cards and see wat the temperatures are, if they are high that might be the problem. It might have to do with your power supply also, is your PSU adequate enough? I would try re-plugging in all the connections and put all the settings at default, take your GPU's out of the mobo and reinstall them and re-plug the PCI connectors.
 
like pewpew said, if you recently tryed to overclock it, if you had it built they could have put a lock on overclocking
 
Does it do it with SLI disabled? If it does, try one card at a time and see if you can isolate it.
 
Check all monitor cables. Also could be an overheating issue. I'd suggest recording your temps while playing and while idle and then posting them here.
 
i'd also download a livecd with mem86+ and prime95 to test your memory and cpu, if you pass those, i'd assume psu or gpu failure.
 
Okay, temperatures run between 55-65 degrees C. From what I recall, those aren't terrible.

I have tried with SLI enabled and disabled... neither seem to make any difference with the problem. I am not overclocking anything.

The power supply should be enough, as it's powered this machine for several years now, and there have been no hardware changes in over a year.
 
i would say that you ma have a dtriver issue . maybe possibly a driver conflict . just because both versions of the driver do it doesnt mean that anouther driver isnt conflicting with it . i would honestly wiope /reinstall , and just install only the most needed drivers. ie video .. see if this fix's the issue. also . if this has just occured , and you are using a semi older 8800 ... they draw alot of power .. if you have a 12 volt rail going bad in your psu .. this can be the issue too .. if you have an option to possibly hook the 8800 to a diff pci-e power cable on a diff rail .. ry that .

Define several years.

Things do get old and just wear out, especially with computers.
 
since you mentioned sli try your card in the other slot to see if that helps. If it does you could have a bad slot on your motherboard. If it doesn't help your slot is fine and one less thing to look at.
