EVE on linux (under wine)

so im at my dads on my linux box and im addicted to EVE. The only problem is i can't get it to work

i installed wine, got the fonts, ect...

installed dx9 march, it failed at the very end so, like when it says to restart, so im pretty sure it installed correctly

so then i install eve, it says dx9 is jacked up

i start EVE, the splash screen pops up like normal goes away... then my computer acts like nothing happened. "what game launch?"

i've done many google's and can't figure it out :/ the worst part is my character isn't training anything :O

btw wine will never work perfect for games so just duel boot windows and linux or windows and mac or what ever you use.

probably dumb, unnecessary, and probably insecure, but are you running as root?

ADDENDUM:

if your install failed, or is only partially finished, i suggest installing PlayOnLinux. There are deb and rpm packages available and its probably also in the apt repository.

running as root or not has no affect on wine programs

because everything but the wine executable is contained in the users home folder.

It does if the permissions on /usr/lib or the directory he installed EVE to are restricted on his user/group. This is very likely as it isn't his computer. I know if I let someone use my linux box I make a user with limited permissions.

ya true i was thinking of the default directory that wine puts stuff which is ~/.wine/drive_c/ which the current user always has full read/write too

this is my computer, just keep a computer at his house. i tried installing as root, same stuff happened.

i already went to appdb, eve supposedly runs decent but no sound (not an issue). I'm running the latest.

play on liunx is only necessary if your using steam, which im not

UPDATE: I got the install for everything working, but the splash still pops up then goes away
