I'm looking to start a project (non-eGO related). I know a ton of people may have wanted to help out with the Holy Strike project, but they are overloaded. :cursing: For my school, I want to do an open ended project involving people i can't meet in person, i figured there may be a large amount of people in eGO that may have an interest.
Here is my proposition: Anyone wanting to work on a project, or perhaps beginner programmers looking to learn , or maybe even experienced programmers that have never really done an organized project. I plan on using a modified style of AGILE programming methodology that i have used for school learned from different corporations that actually use this methodology.
So, The Project: I want to program a simple 2D platformer game in the style of old snes/genesis days. Sounds fun, huh? I actually want it to be a game for my girlfriend. She loves elephants, so my nickname for her is "my pink ellie." So i want to program a game called Pink Ellie Adventures. Sounds silly doesn't it? If i still have your attention, i want to program it in a style of the genesis game called Ristar, i know a lot of you just cheered and said, "THAT WAS AN AWESOME GAME :O" It also happens to be one of my gfs' favorite games.
All of the details will be filled in by a massive brainstorming session. From this brain storm, we will get a general idea of the program. Then we are going to start spelling it out, creating scenarios. From the scenarios we will create a Test Case, the test cases will spell out, step by step, how a scenario plays out. We will have tons of these "cards" to hand out to different programmers, harder cards will go to more experienced programmers, some of the lesser cards can go to beginner programmers and they get experience! We will be using Java since i think it is fairly popular, great documentation of all the methods, and it's easier to find free development tools and compilers.
So, What I need:
Lots of interested programmers!
A few programmers more experienced in gaming programming.
Highly Artistic users for graphic designs (ooooh pretty)
A few people more interested in management (doesn't have to be programmer)
Later on i'll need level designers, and testers as well.
Who can benefit from this:
College people looking for some experience
High schoolers learning the rope
Open source programmers looking for something to do
Bored People ready to jump onto something interesting.
NOw, if you want to know more about me before you jump on. I'm a 22 year old college student studying at Penn State University. I am currently getting two degrees, one in Information Sciences and Technology, and the other in Security Risk Analysis. I have been programming since i've been 12 and started modifying Nibbles in q-basic. Then I learned C/C++. Finally settling on Java in High School and further study in Java in College, along with picking up some Cobolt, Python, and VB whilst i was at it. I also had to teach myself c# and the .net environment when i was working with Yale medical center in high school over the summer. I have programmed many things, however i am actually quite inexperienced at game programming. I've done mods and other programs bassed on a source engine, but never did one from scratch and i am very excited about it.
If you are interested, PM me on here, AND post to keep this thread alive, I want tons of help!
