Heck, I'm building a folding farm right now. $600 on non-gpu ccomponents, and about $1600 on GPUs(estimating a price of $400 for the Fermi card that is the equivalent of the GTX 260). If Fermi will be out by the end of the year...otherwise I'm just getting 4 GTX 285's.

And "The world will never need more than five computers" (Thomas Watson, IBM), and "640K memory is more than will ever be needed" (Bill Gates, Microsoft).

I hate stupid statements like that. Anyone building/buying a computer should get the best the can comfortably afford. If someone has the money to buy such a machine, why shouldn't they? Do you really believe it will be more than a couple of years before something is out that can make use of that much power?

Back on topic, I just got a new ATI graphics card. I'll be downloading the client for it shortly! What an awesome cause.

I have to agree on that statement. I'm always on the lookout to upgrade when I can. Like the above statement says if you can afford it, why not buy it?
 
I have joined the team. So far I have 2 of my computers crunching away. I plan on installing this on my two work computers also for a total of 4 computers. I used to do SETI. I think this is for a better cause.

Team EVGA(111065).

I've folded for several other teams, including the #1 team, [H]ardOCP, but EVGA's team has much more camaraderie and helpfulness than any other team I've folded for.

This is one of the few reasons I joined eGO. It's initiatives like this that make me a proud member of such a great gaming community. I'll check it out when I get home and hopefully get all set up (my i7 is 99% idle at least 15 hours a day, should be a good contributor :-D)

Excellent.

Just so you know, running a VMWare SMP client will get you the best performance(about 2.5 times the Windows SMP client). If you need help setting this up, let me know.

That would be awesome. Someone on my team got 75 million points in about a month(or maybe 2, can't remember) by installing it on his companies servers.

During the summer, I worked at a special effects studio here in Toronto, and we were setting up their new renderfarm. There were 512 Dual-Xeon 3.2 GHz, 16GB memory blade servers, and I ran F@H on them for about 8 days, managed to rack up about 21,000,000 points before we had to stop them running 'cause they needed them to actually render things. It's great when you can use the -smp 8 switch and actually mean it.

I'm in :-D Thanks FreakingHell for helping me set it up with i7...I can honestly say I've never had a moment where CPU usage was 100% and I was happy about it..but right now i really am :-D

Want to take a screenshot of Fahmon so we can see how much PPD you are pulling? The VMware notfreds clients are ridiculously more efficient then the windows clients, getting more than 2 times the performance. :w00t:

Very few people dive into the VMWare's first as it's harder to setup(the regular SMP you just run a .exe or a .bat and answer a couple questions), but it's more than worth it.

The only number you care about there is the 6500 PPD. Everything else is just WU info that only the guys at Stanford understand.

May I ask what video card you have in your computer?
