Folding@eGO team, round 2! (If you don't know what folding is, please read)

Welcome to the folding world. :)

Lol Thanks FreakingHell, I actually did it a while ago on my PS3 but i never actually completed a WU. My ps3 completed its first one this morning, left that little sucker on all night and i woke up this morning and it already started on a new one. :) Plus im doing one on my computer right now

im currently folding on my ps3..well i was i think it got shut off due to power outages at school... i am home atm and they are having big problems at school with power and water and stuff due to a storm. Im gonna get my pc to start folding again but i need someone to help me set one up that will use all 4 cores when i run it.

sidenote: Request for this to become a sticky possibly?

That's the guide you need. Also, everybody that I have helped to set up VMWare clients should consider finishing their work units and using the guide above to install the Windows SMP2 client which uses the A3 core. the reason the linux client was superior previously was because it had the A2 core while the Windows client only had the A1 core. Now they both have A3, so the advantage is gone. Since running a virtual machine hogs extra memory, running the native Windows client makes more sense.

well looks like ill have something to work on when i get back to school on sunday! out for the week cuz of power outages and water shortages and like 3 feet of snow.

If you go to the ip address in your web browser, there is a line that says restarting with the -oneunit flag...click the link to do that. This way it finishes the work units and then stops. Having unfinished work units floating around is bad for the project.

What kind of PPD are you getting on your Q6600 using the SMP2 client FreakingHell? I haven't set mine up yet but I'm getting ready to, just want to have something to compare to so I know my config is optimal.

I'm just now setting up the passkey and according to the guide I should let the linux vm complete 10 WUs and get ~19200 bonus points. I guess I'll make a note in my log and start up the SMP2 client after the 10 are done.

Is there a possibility that all the points done before the passkey was set up could be erased?

Oh okay, I'll let you know what I get in a few days. On another note, I just got my 3rd GTX260 back so I hope to have that running later tonight.

excellent!

So who wants to explain this?:
Note: If you have never used a passkey and are switching from VMware Linux to Win SMP, add the passkey to your Linux client and complete 10 a2 WUs before switching to the Win SMP2 client. THe Linux SMP client will get 19200 points for the 10 qualifying WUs in the same time the Win SMP client will recieve 4700 or so points.

got the beta client running, PR climate doesn't agree with my cooler though..running at 51 degrees! :P

The new work units implement a new bonus system based on how fast the work unit is returned (faster returns benefit the project quite a bit). To be eligible for the bonus points, you need to have returned 10 A2 or A3 work units using a passkey.

What about that "add the passkey to your linux client, complete 10 WUs, then go back to win"? Necessary step or no?

Actually, it won't work now. A2 work units are being phased out by A3 work units, so you need the new client to receive the work units that will make you eligible for the bonus. Note that your PPD will be significantly lower until you have returned the 10 work units. Also, fahmon does not take into account bonus points, so it will seem low.
