Folding@eGO team, round 2! (If you don't know what folding is, please read)

I got it installed.
It is working.
My name under it is "Ric".

But what is this 0/2500 thing?
 
What is the point of this. What are we making more use out of. What will out computers be used for? Who is making money off this?
 
No one is making money off of it, unless you count Stanford for not having to buy the supercomputer to do the calculations. Think of it like donating to cancer research, but using your computer and not your money.

That's your progress. When you get to 2500/2500 you'll have finished your work unit and it'll be sent back to stanford. After that you'll get a new unit, and be back at 0/##### :)

Take, I don't like the default settings it has, would it be OK to tweak with it myself or to follow a guidline?

I want it to use more and not less pretty much.
I'm all for donating. Maybe someone else will return the favor one day. :P
 
Hey Ric, if you do see trouble with the client you are currently running be sure to try the console version. Much easier and reliable . Thanks for joining the help !

Now i have a question... I recently setup my office rig which includes an
i3 /Asus H55pro / 8800 GTS . While folding, GPU usage stays at 0 % accoring to EVGA Precision , but all the clocks are up and 447/512 of the ram is being used. It is completing the work units and all, but something cant be right since the GPU temp reading in EVGA is 50 at idle and 56 underload.

Well, when i bought the GPU ( im so proud of myself at what a deal i got ) i had installed it in my main home gaming rig and set to play a lil TF2. Temps got upto 75c in game and upto 80c while folding. Kinda strange....

The GPU is an eVGA 8800 GTS 512mb - 65nm FTW . Surprised me , built on the same process as the early 200 series.

Bottom line, GPU usage stays at 0 % on my work rig, while it stays at 98-99 % on the other . Is this maybe an EVGA precision bug ?

After a long break I have decided to start folding again. I managed to get one of my gpu's going this morning before I left for work. I will get the other one going tonight when I get home.

I'm still not sure if I want to start folding with my i7 again yet, my gpu's should be pretty good for now. Maybe if I get bored later in the week I will set it up.

Not sure if 8800 meets the basic requirements for the high performance client..maybe someone else with more folding knowledge can confirm?

Basic requirements:
a GeForce, Quadro, or Tesla card that supports CUDA (G80 or later for the most part)
A CUDA capable driver, version 174.55 is recommended. Or 177.35 for GTX 2xx cards (you can download the driver for Win XP, Win XP 64 bit, Vista, and Vista 64 bit).
Windows operating system (32 or 64 bit), XP or newer (better Vista and 64-bit support coming soon)

Tweak away! I had to change the settings a little as well to not use so many resources, since the hotter months are inching closer, and an i7/gtx 260 under 100% load don't mix at all with the hot/humid weather of puerto rico lol my bedroom has been like an oven for the past two months :)
 
All 8800 cards meet folding requirements.
dbee, EVGA precision has had bugs with GPU usage in the past, most likely whats happening here. If the clients aren't hung don't worry about it.
 
I just updated to windows 7 about 20 minutes ago. Does folding run on Win7? Because when I go to the site it only says
Windows XP/2003/Vista
System tray client installer with viewer

i'll totally do this! I remember seeing this on a TV show a while back but never got into it.

I hope my quad-core cures cancer!
 
Hey freaking, by upping all the clocks through EVGA precision it now shows GPU usage. Sweet. I really need to get my CPU cores folding , thats missing out on alot of folds/points. ill let you all know how well the 470 folds when she comes in...
 
Hate to break it to you, but the 470 will not fold at all right now. But stanford has new cores that fix the problem in beta testing as we speak, so a fix is coming.
 
I can start folding again, but I can't use the SMP client (or I don't want to) because I am using a stock cooler.
