Hello, my name is Prototype. you might see me a lot in the tf2 servers always playing spy. i have over 100+ hours logged on spy although i recently reset my stats. in this part we will be going over basic's and what watch to use ect.

To start off, i will tell you one very important thing that ALL spies must do to capitalize their success in killing the enemy team.

DON'T JUMP INTO THE WAR.

what i mean is don't get into the front lines and try to kill someone. you will be killed on the way or killed as soon as you back stab someone. get behind the enemy lines and keep running for ammo drops (if you are using the standard watch) and pick off enemy team players as you see them.

Techniques:

The stalk kill:
A successful stalk kill is when you approach an enemy from behind when no one is looking, uncloak and quickly stab and get away alive.
to perform this skill, you must make sure no sentries, enemy team mates, people watching, or else you will blow your cover after the stab. this technique is best used for spawn camping.

side stab:
a successful side stab is when you walk in disguise parallel to someone on the other team and flick your mouse to the left/right and stab quickly.
Example:
you--->
<---enemy
as you get closer you will flick your mouse to the side and stab them quickly. this technique is a little difficult but it comes with experience.

Leaping stab (my favorite):
A leaping stab is the stab you will always want to do if available. this stab is almost completely undetectable because it happens so fast and the enemy cant react fast enough. this stab comes sometimes, but not always. you will have to time it perfectly to get it bang on, but it might take experience and experimentation.

LOAD OUT AND EQUIPMENT:
the most important part of a spy is his loadout. without it the spy is usless.
Revolver/Ambassador
Revolver
-good if you don't have picture perfect aim
-faster fire rate
-more damage
-less accuracy than ambassador
-no crit head shots
-good for a spy needing to help out the team with a couple of close range shots
Ambassador
-high accuracy
-crit on head shot
-can pick off enemies from far away
-low accuracy after first shot
-useless if you cant aim
-less damage on body shots than revolver
-Good for a lone spy needing to take out a sniper/engie guarding a sentry or a chasing pyro

Dead Ringer/Cloak and dagger/ Invisibility watch

Invisibility watch
-best for a moving spy looking to get into the enemy base and dominating
-best for getting around the enemy team and escaping from enemies
-no unlimited cloak like cloak and dagger
-if ammo not available it is tough to use
-Overall this watch will far more benefit you if trained properly more than the cloak and dagger or dead ringer.

Dead ringer
-easy for beginners
-easy to get into enemy base
-can save your butt sometimes
-loud decloak sound
-cannot cloak on demand
-low amount of cloak time (8 seconds)
-Best for a beginner spy. this watch will get you a lot of kills and will help you correct the mistakes you make during a game.

Cloak and dagger
-unlimited cloak time
-good for hiding or against engies or snipers
-better for waiting a situation for the perfect time for a kill
-cloak drains fast
-hard to get into enemy base fast
-harder to escape with due to the cloak draining fast
-this watch is best for a spy who likes to take his time and wants something to work out a certain way.

Once again, someone else I want to grumble at for trying to teach the world to play spy.... D: Bring it on though, I'm ready for anything :D

Ugh, another spy guide..

I've never found guides helpful, especially with spy. I just learned by playing.

Other people might, though you learn pretty much all of this stuff by fiddling around with it and learning your own playstyle instead of trying to play like someone else.

good for a player thats just getting into the spy class as it gives the pros/cons of each weapon/item, but for an intermediate-advanced spy they wont see anything usefull here

I have to agree with CC here. I never was one for spy, but I was playing egypt earlier and I was testing and fooling around with C&D, and was having alot of fun with it, So you don't really need a guide for how to play a class, Just mess around with it to find your style is all.

Remember, practice makes you better, because nothing is perfect ;).

I think this will help visual learners more, it covers the same stuff you just did.
