Find a section on something you enjoy, wiether it be your game division, misc game discussion, tech talk, general stuff, or off topic with its shenanigans.

Just focus on stuff you like/care about and it'll just happen.

If you can find areas that you enjoy/like to talk about ... or want to just look into and learn things... Start there.
After you get bored of those areas, you tend to start and wander
That's how you get most active.

First, I advise you to check This out for some good tips on forum etiquette.

Second, just press Quicklinks then New posts to see new threads/posts on the forum so you can see fresh threads.

Finally, do what I do. Check in the morning, during the afternoon, then before you go to bed.

after you skimmed everything over go quick links and hit mark forums read.

also mainly stick to one subsection or 2 and there is also rss feeds for most areas of the forums.

Wow your finding it hard to stay on? I cant even get off! Im on atleast 95% of the day.

Hehe honestly, I get on the forums for about 15-20 minutes before I even load up the game just to check on different subjects I want to post in or just to say hi to people in the shoutbox. I also get on the forums before I go to bed for like 15-20 minutes. Set it as your homepage and just post away. If you find something funny or cool, feel free to post it up and see what other people say about it. Good way to get to know the other members in your division or even in another division.

Go into different types of forums, get to know people and if you get REALLY confused, just ask around if you need help, but once you get used to it, it's not hard.
