I was wondering if anyone else was looking forward to Final Fantasy XIV as I am. I played FFXI for about two to three years until I got a better computer and picked up WoW. While I did pretty much hate FFXI for various reasons, I'm really excited about trying FFXIV (along with SW:TOR!).

I wasn't quite as excited until I watched that video and heard about the differences between XIV and XI (no grinding?! Is this really a Final Fantasy game?! Or a SquareEnix game?!). As I've told a friend of mine, all I want is a polearm, to be able to jump, and a wyvern named Nanaja and I'll be fine.

I'm looking forward to FFXIV with cautious optimism.

FFXI plays like too much of the last generation of MMOs; it's not very user or new-player friendly. From the few months I played it, I just had tons of flashbacks to running around as a confused noob in EQ.

If it takes after EQ2/WoW/LotRO and makes the systems more functional, makes information much more accessible, and doesn't have a crafting system where you have to "face certain directions during certain moon phases and to hope you get what you wanted out of the things you just put together," it should be the greatest MMO ever.

Yeah. I never bothered with crafts in FFXI. It was way too much of a pain and really everything seemed like a gil sink. I'd rather do WoW's 450 craft levels all over again instead of FFXI's 100 levels.

im getting it most deff, F11 is my fave mmorpg.

FF14 will not have a levelling sytem SE say, some new system..im looking forward to see what they come up with

yep, i look forwards to it, i hope its atleast as good as final fantasy vII
:)

I'm a huge fan of the FF series. Never played FFXI though. XIV looks sick as hell. Lets just see how XIII turns out.

I'm kinda sad. I just bought XI again to finish up the SL and get my job up to 75. I'm hoping they add to a crossover or they at least give something to us XI players. x__x

i am never playing online games in which i have to pay again (learned that from everquest) However other than a huge star wars and JJBinks fan my most favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy 8 so i have played almost every Final Fantasy game in existence (FF11 negated from eq)

i already have FF13 on preorder

My sincerest hope is that the keep the focus on community and making friends, along with the wonderful story system they had set up.

I really enjoyed the "switch jobs" aspect of FFXI. Everyone knows that it's fun to change jobs and try different things, but making a completely new character that everyone has to figure out is you makes it a little bit of a drag.

Sure, clan/guild mates will quickly learn who you are after saying, "Oh, CrystalShot is D.T.S. as an alt." However, it prevents you from easily keeping and making friends outside of your guild.

And I am really, really tired of questing as a replacement for mob grinding. Such a proliferation of quests just kind of makes them tasks on a check list, rather than fun and unique experiences.

Thinking about it now, maybe I just don't like MMOs since my chief complaints seem to be the hallmarks of many current ones. Never really got into WoW, but I did love FFXI.

Although FFXI was really just a glorified chat room with something to do on the side. Mob killing was straightforward, and left you time to type and talk during grinding.

Final Fantasy XIV is the only FF I cared about since IX. I'll definitely check it out.

You do realize FFXI WAS one of the last generation MMOs right? It came out in the '90s, and was one of the predominant MMOs that helped bring them into a more mainstream market.

Myself personally, I can't wait till this game comes out. I'm whittling away the time on FFXI and Eve Online until it comes out (with some Borderlands and COD4 tossed in). Hopefully they do a beta so I can sneak into it :D.
