Lol ok this may not seem knew to u guys but i have been playin on my moms lets pretty nice laptop and i have not had only a couple problems with it and are being fixed by hp as we speak. but considering i sent it in i had to find a way to play my CSS and im using my old rig which is quite capable. Nvida GeForce 6800 GT grapichs with duel core intel celeron processor(im not a fan of it) 1g of ram and but when i got the computer before i bought it off our own =(eG)= Punisher and had never had a problem. i updated the drivers which fixed about half of it. most of the stuttering etc. but when ever im on CSS it runs fine until i get into a firefight. or a few of my teamates are firing next to me. it acts like its too much to handle which is BS. for a year on this rig no lag and now. why?

You probably turned up the settings a bit and didn't notice. Try using an FPS boosting config. I remember a server turned on a setting for me which made me lag when people died because of the way it rendered their dead corpses.

how would i go about finding a good one?

I'm not surprised...
My old laptop was a 7400 GPU, I got like 30fps as a HIGH average... (20-25 was norm)
Unfortunately I think you might be needing an upgrade if nobody can help you...

Try googling "How to Increase FPS in CSS" and/or "Fixing bad lag in CSS"
I used to have my graphics to a horrible look, but it did help a bit... Thank god I don't need to anymore though, I love this new PC!

lol u guys missed my point. the laptop is badass and the PC is having probs. i sent the laptop in for a bad overheating problem which shouldnt be that bad so i sent in on the warranty hehe warranty FTW!.

I have an old performance booster config from back in my competitive days I can post when I get home if you like. It dumbs down the unnecessary graphics, including, though some may not agree, dead bodies. I have a top notch rig now, but I still use it. If you want, I'll post it later.

I also wanted to add:
If the lag issue is not related to in-game graphics, you may want to look at processes, temperatures, maybe just general disk cleanup and temp folder dumps (may not help for games but in general performance), things like that. Note any newly installed programs, see if they have added any changes to your previous configuration.

Bad ass laptops still aren't that good for gaming. Get a decent desktop. Trust us.

The "over heating problem" is that you are gaming on a laptop.

$500 on newegg goes a long way.

umm im runnin the CSS defrag now and the normal disk defragmenter next and i just want to thank every1 for their knowledge or suggestions. if this defrag doesnt work that means its time to junk this computer which i dont want to but ya defrag is my LAST option. i have been runnin caseys config which normally works for me on different rigs and i have NO virus/malware. so ya if this doesnt work u guys probably wont be seein much on the CSS or COD4 servers for a little while. if that happens ill cya sometime in the near future

lol i know laptops suck for gaming but the overheating is a problem cause its liquid cooled and i got a cooling pad at best buy. 6 months its not even at room temp now it flares for somereason. and i have a PC priced on tiger direct with the new CORE I7's and SLI and all those goodies. so ya if i can afford it i should have it in about 2 1/2 months. when that time comes get ready for some MUDVEIN POWNAGE on COD4 crossfire and CSS. till then u guys better practice!. who am i kidding i suck hahaha

good luck. Don't throw away the computer though, sell its parts on ebay or save some of the decent parts for the future in case something breaks.
