I've been trying to start up steam for hours now. Everytime I click "Log-In" I get a window saying "Steam is having trouble connecting to the steam servers." There's a button that says Retry, as well as cancel and a link to "Troubleshooting tips." I've tried EVERYTHING, and I mean EVERYTHING their troubleshooting page has suggested twice, and none of it's worked. :cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing::cursing: Is there a fix?

You probably already tried the clientregistry.blob tip, but are you using Comcast?

There is no way to fix this, it is on comcasts end. I tried to fix it for about 8 hours straight... nothing worked. Its comcasts problem.

edit: On steam forums there are hundreds of posts from comcast users across the USA that are all having same problem.

yeah i did a quick google search after i saw people from eGO having the same problem, and i saw the huge topic on their forums >_<
hopefully it will be fixed soon

Yes, its a Comcast issue that hangs up at the Atlanta Qwest ISP route to Valve. There's hundreds of people out right now. Been like that all day. Got a 17 page thread over at the STEAM forums on this topic.

I have Comcast also. I have the same problem except I'm already logged in. I just can't open the community page. I tried opening the actual steampowered website also and it has the same problem. I haven't been able to do stuff on the community for the last 2 days. Hope it gets fixed.

Apparently, some people on the STEAM forums are saying if you powercycle your MODEM, it will generate a new IP that will work. It's worth a try so I'm passing it along to everyone here. Tell me if it works.

I've got comcast, noticed that the valve developer community is also down.

Just powercycled my modem. Did absolutely nothing.

Going to call comcast and rage.

Sorry to hear that!

Looking threw the other posts, it seems like your not the only one have problems.

I shall pointlessly add my name to this list.

On a side note, I can access my bro's account. He uses Comcast too, because we use the same interwebs. Maybe it only affects a select unlucky few that use Comcast. Damn you, Comcast! Since my bro's account is working, I'm off to play Bioshock.

Edit: Possibly because of this occurence, Steam Support is down.

Problem : Valve's Steam Network cannot connect. Possible server error in Atlanta area. Comcast is the only IP affected.

Alex > Valve's Steam Network cannot connect. Possible server error in Atlanta area. Comcast is the only IP affected.

Alex_ > Hey, got a bit of a problem here.

Peter Pablito > Hello Alex_, Thank you for contacting Comcast Live Chat Support. My name is Peter Pablito. Please give me one moment to review your information.

Peter Pablito > Hi, Alex.

Peter Pablito > How may I help you today?

Alex_ > Got a bit of a problem connecting to the Steam Network through comcast.

Alex_ > I've restarted my modem, and router, unplugged it, hit the reset button, everything.

Peter Pablito > I see.

Peter Pablito > Let me check that one for you.

Peter Pablito > Before we can proceed, may I have your account number please?

Alex_ > Sorry, don't have that in front of me. Guessing I can find it on a billing statement?

Peter Pablito > Yes, Ales.

Peter Pablito > *Alex

Peter Pablito > Sorry about that.

Peter Pablito > Thank you. That would be on your bill.

Alex_ > Alright. I'll be reconnecting in a bit. I'll try and dig up all the network specs I can.

Peter Pablito > Oh, okay.

Peter Pablito > Let me pull up your account as well. Please give me a few minutes.

Peter Pablito > Thank you for waiting, Alex.

Peter Pablito > Just to clarify, is your internet slow or intermittent? Correct me if i'm wrong please?

Alex_ > **** ** *******

Alex_ > The internet is still working, only particular services are affected.

Alex_ > Current speed on my end is about 5 mb/s

Alex_ > Some sites affected: http://store.steampowered.com/ and http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Main_Page

Alex_ > Both owned by valve corperation.

Alex_ > The error, as reported by firefox: The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

Peter Pablito > I see. Thank you for clarifying that to me.

Peter Pablito > May I ask if you have internet explorer with you?

Alex_ > I do. It won't connect either.

Peter Pablito > I see.

Peter Pablito > I believe Comcast is blocking this sites.

Peter Pablito > But don't worry, I have a solution for this.

Peter Pablito > Please give me a minute to pull it up.

Peter Pablito > Thank you for waiting, Alex.

Peter Pablito > Just to clarify, only these two sites are the ones you can't connect to. Other sites are doing good. Am I correct?

Alex_ > Example: www.google.com. Works just fine.

Alex_ > Any site owned by valve corperation does not work, exept www.valvesoftware.com

Peter Pablito > I see. Thank you for that information. I believe this site is being blocked. Here's what you need to do. You need to fill up this form: http://www.comcastsupport.com/Forms/Net/blockedprovider.asp Once submitted, rest assured that you will be access those sites again. Process takes up to 6 hours tops. That should do it.

Alex_ > All right, thank you for your time.

Peter Pablito > Pleasure's all mine.

Peter Pablito > Have we covered everything else for today, Alex?

Alex_ > Yep, thanks a bunch.

The form he game me links to an e-mail IP unblocker... WHAT IS GOING ON!?!

Also. I can't connect to the support servers... same error with all steam sites.

It Doesn't work. This is something I've tried already, as it was in steams troubleshooting page. Does it matter or not that I have a router and a static IP (For forwarded ports)?

I'm thinking it's some sort of wonderful anti-spam device.

It was intended to stop email spammers... but apparently, the data transmited via steam was enough to flip a switch somewhere. Going to switch IP's soon.

Comcast has failed me for the last time [/reference]

Apparently, the Qwest Atlanta server that valve uses to redirect to WA is blocking Comcast. But it's only doing it to some of the IPs, not all. Thats the problem, its the IPs cause I get in fine. You need to ether have your IP change or just wait it out painfully till it gets fixed. Resetting the modem will change your IP in only SOME cases apparently.

Ya, its the static IP. The problem is with certain Comcast IPs. If you can get to Dynamic IP then powercycle, it should change it.

I can't get on comcast at all it keeps shutting on and off and on and off and on and off then my tv goes away
