Hey guys and girls, I got my lovely Novint Falcon and after playing with it for a week or so I figure I can give a decent review for all those of you who want to make an educated consumers choice.
-Tutorial:
The tutorial that comes with the Falcon is really really good. It guides you through the things the Falcon can do, letting you feel different textures such as sand, and ice. Its hard to describe how those things feel to someone, but the Falcon does an extremely good job at replicating them.
-Setting it up for other games:
This took a bit of time. It was a bit hard to find everything needed to set it up for TF2 and L4D, but when I found the right forum it was fine. Kinda disappointing that there isn't a straight download for it, but that's a minor complaint.
-First hour:
This is what I guess you can call the "adjusting" period. You need to spend some time getting used to the range of motion for the falcon and I suggest doing this on an empty server, to get a feel for it. After adjusting the Falcon calibration for a while, I got a good feel for it.
-Better or worse?:
Ive always considered myself a good sniper in TF2, and the falcon has IMPROVED my skills. Its very good for a sniper. Its about even for me for most classes such as Soldier, but twitch classes such as scout are alot harder to play.
-Immersion:
The Falcon really helps you feel like being in the game, but not to the point L4D does, and ill talk about that later. Since TF2 is a more unrealistic game, it makes you feel like your in a cartoon. Which is good, but some of the effects like the effect when you get healed really separate the feeling of being in a breathing world.
Overall rating for TF2: 4/5 Stars
First Hour: After playing tf2 for a while, it was much easier to get into L4D then TF2, with having more experience with the falcon.
-Better or worse?: I never considered myself good at L4D, because i never felt the need to be. It's a very fun game to just play, and playing it terrible is just as fun. Not that the falcon makes it bad. I felt about the same as i usually do, and it was alot of fun.
-Immersion: Wow. Wait till dark, turn the lights of, use the Falcon. You will be yelling at the zombies in no time. The best part is using the shotgun, not only does it feel realistic to SHOOT it, you can feel the RELOAD. Its great! If you play L4D, get the falcon. Its 100% worth it.
Rating: 10/5 Stars. Its that good! :thumbup1:
