Zune HD Looks AMAZING

I've had my Zune 30 since launch day of the Zune brand, and its been good to me. I've heard that they are planning to offer upgrade discounts and was planning on making good on the offer... Unfortunately, Novint's offer touched my wallet first and the Zune HD may be a while....

This will be amazing! I currently have the original 30gb and I love it! I will definately be getting this

:O i hope they have a trade in deal type thing......so shiny and HD'y

This guy looks really good. The problem with trying to "out ipod the ipod" is not only do you have to make a device that competes, but you also have to create the app community too. I think the big ipod/iphone competitors (microsoft, creative, sandisk, palm, RIM, google) should create a new universal app language that everyone uses. Then they could have a chance at something as big and broad as the itunes app store. Then the competition can truly begin.

I definitely agree with that. The iPod and similar Apple products are all way too entrenched in the populace right now for any competitors to make a huge dent in its market share as of yet. However, the Zune HD looks promising, and shows that Apple isn't the only company making decent music players.

i used to have the old zune, it was ok but the battery died to quickly :|

instead of a multi purpose device, such as the ipod, which it has turned into with apps, i would like the zune to keep its concentration on playing music and other media. I do not want to buy a mini computer that can do my shopping and do my homework. I want what I paid for, a music player.

Perhaps putting more effort into being a music player would be the right way to go. If you want apps and programs, buy a computer. I think the two should be different.

I would like to see better codec support (lossless, FLAK, etc) instead of the stupid penguin game or other apps.

I guess what im saying is that im paying for a music player, not a palm pilot. You put apps and other crapware on it, the price will surely rocket upwards.

Other than playing lossless audio, and maybe a better EQ, what improvements to being an audio player would you like?

I agree that the Ipod should support flac and other lossless formats, but I greatly enjoy having games to play while riding the subway or bus. I also like the ability to check bank accounts, bus status, or just email and rss feeds when I'm near wireless and have time that needs killing. Not to mention, the ipod is the perfect companion for the crapper! Yes, penguin games and many of the hokey apps (beer drinker, light saber, bird indentifier) are easy to poke fun at, but there are a lot of good games (star defense especially) that are worth playing, and a lot of good apps that I use on a daily basis.

FLAC players do exist. They are as pricey as ipods and lack wifi capabilities. Most people will take the latter.

right, but what im saying is there should be versions of ipods and such that are strictly music players. As a musician, I thoroughly enjoy listening to music and I could care less about all the gadgets, so why should I have to pay for them?

You have to pay for them because features are determined based on what people will pay for, and musicians are broke! ;)

Also, the nano or classic sound right up your alley. I don't see apple supporting FLAC anytime soon. The VAST majority of people who own mp3 players call their wma and aac files mp3's, and think FLAC is something I'm giving you with the broke musicians crack!

I'd like it too, but I like the wifi and games more.

How about some compromise?

Maybe some more music oriented apps, like mixers and tuners like the realtek audio drivers I have.

An internet browser is always useful, it's almost necessary.

What I'd like to see cut are these completely worthless apps like iBeer and that one that lets you make blank icons on the home screen.

Less superfluous app support and more bug fixes and streamlined interfaces would be where I'd like to shoot for.

And some more file support would be great.
