New Comp or Just upgrade?

Hey,
I need some help deciding if i should upgrade my current desktop or wait and buy/build a new one. The desktop I have now really sucks so I am having to use my laptop for gaming and it just doesn't have the graphic card or processor for hardcore gaming. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9353353&type=product&id=1218090329155
These are the specs for my desktop
Model: Gateway 310s
Processor: Intel Celeron @2.4GHz
RAM: 1.25GB up to 2GB
Graphic card: Intel integrated with 64mb of memory
I want to know if i should spend $200 on upgrading the graphic card and RAM, but i would have to wait till around December to do this, or if I should wait until next summer and buy a new desktop from ibuypower or build one and spend around $600 on it? And if I did wait would my laptop be able to play most games until then?

definitely wouldn't be worth trying to upgrade that desktop, best bet is to try to build one yourself. you can get like m-ATX case/mobo for 100 bucks combined then a leet processor for 100 bucks and a good graphics card for 150-200. 2 gb of ram will only cost 25-50 bucks and you could probably use your old harddrives if they are good, or your old disk player and that will save you money.

but upgrading to a better video card will be bottlenecked by your crappy CPU. and to get a new CPU you'll need a new mobo. so you basically need everything.

but you should be able to build a great gaming comp for yourself for 500 bucks or so depending if you need to buy a monitor/mouse/keyboard/HDD whatever
 
If you upgrade GPU/RAm you will probably be bottle-necked by the slow other stuff. And the PSU may not like the added stuff. Not worth it imo, just save up and build something decent.
 
Will my laptop be able to handle any new games while I wait till next summer to build a new desktop? It can run TF2 now o.k. now on low with a little lag here and there.
 
Depends on the game really. If you can run TF2 on low/medium, you can probably run most other Valve games about the same. But don't expect anything great, most developers are starting to up the ante with hardware requirements for games.
 
Defintely Save up and build a new computer next summer! That Celeron processor is going to bottleneck any new GPU you put in there. And Gateway usually uses a generic brand of PSUs, so putting a Geforce/Radeon in that system would cause a fire! well, not really, but it would overload the system. Also, the case you would be using would still be the Gatway case and that would not circulate air well and would cause another overheating issue as well.
My advice, save up and build a decent computer next summer. Yes, it will cost more money, but it will also last longer in the end.
 
Oh and I forgot the processor is a dual core intel celeron in my desktop, and a PCI gpu slot.
 
Also, does anyone own a laptop with a Intel 4500mhd graphic card? If so how does it perform on other games besides TF2, Portal and Half Life 2?
 
I dont own a laptop with that graphics chip but I can teel you that anything Intel graphics will most likely not run many 3d games
