cod 4 multiplayer crash [solved]

I might've mentioned it here before...

I have a P.O.S. DELL. it has vista and integrated sound (that doesn't work in XP btw). I've always use my old SB live 24bit sound, but recently I decided to give the integrated sound a go (it seemed fuller and better, especially in cod5.) when I took the SBlive card out, cod4 multiplayer (not singleplayer for some reason) began crashing to desktop. reinstalls didn't help. google didn't help either. then I read something online which turned out to be true. I plugged in the oooooooooooold mic I never use. suddenly cod 4 mp began working! no one knows why but it does.
plz - use my knowledge as much as you can if your cod 4 multiplayer crashes on startup.

its normally todo with AC97's Detect if somethings plugged in feature which u can disable im guessing the mic plugged in is just a fluke work around but if it works woot

I had this issue.

Enabling Stereo Mix or a mic will fix it. =P

Yeppers...happend on my new build a few months ago...did the same research and found the same results.
