My i7 build

looks like a great buy my friend! i bet it runs your games at top notch!

i have been shopping and researching hardware for my new computer rig as well...my current hardware is 3-4 years old and i am due for an upgrade...hopefully the current i7 procs wont be phased out as soon as a lot of experts say.

any who...here is the make up of what i plan on getting hopefully by the end of the year...i would love to hear some feed back!

looking good. don't forget the optical drive and a cpu cooler. the i7 920 stock one is pretty inadequate.
 
you should get the 2560x1600 monitor on newegg if you want the full potential lol
 
Nice rig, let us know how it goes. I am interested in how easily you get your RAM to 1600Mhz in EVGA's bios. I don't think it will plug and play to that speed.

Once you overclock, you never go stock. Not because we need to, but just because.
 
Just a heads up, corei5 is coming out soon which will be faster and cheaper than corei7 when overclocked.
 
Jury is still out on 'faster'..but a good mid-range alternative. i7 still has more theoretical performance, i5 higher theoretical bClk, but not perhaps something the average user will notice.
Dual channel DDR3 and no 16x SLI may not be noticeable, but for the extra $75 I would still choose i7.
I have a feeling from the review these things are going to run very hot as you clock them up.

Ya your right. from play and plug it was set at 1066mhz. i didnt notice it tilll yesterday. I had to manually change it to 1600mhz. i am still trying to figure out and tweak the timings.
 
I know I'll get blasted for this, because some folks have not liked XMP, but you might try it (Intel eXtreme Memory Profiles) I am sure your gear supports it.
I used XMP initially in my BIOS, but it gets funky and random. It will auto set many parameters for overclocked speeds.
XMP did set the 2000Mhz 8-8-8-24 spec RAM to 7-7-7-20 timings @~1925Mhz, but I only get that at 160, 165, 190, and 195 bClk, changing to anything else gave me weird timings. Seems there is a 'sweet' spot'. I left XMP on, but manually set the 7-7-7-20 timings for my 3.3 Ghz core 24/7 ops.
However it set my ram voltage too high, so I manually adjusted that.
So while XMP is twitchy, it did give me the timings to set for a CL7 kit @96% of spec speed, which is awesome, as CL7 spec kits are twice as much as my CL8 kit at those speeds.
