You do have options for a wired connection without running cables. Check out powerline networking. Newegg sells it, and it works well.

If you don't like that option - we can talk MTUs, but if you can get a wired option, I would use it if I were you.
 
I'll keep that Powerline networking in mind BFM. I had read about that years ago when it was new and/or in development, and had no idea it was really implemented in home networking already. Crazy technology, but honestly, in a situation like mine, it may be the best bet. IF all else fails, I'll probably try that. It's a nice feeling knowing there's a workable last resort.

Also : What are MTU's?
 
I've solved this problem with powerline networking as BFM suggested.
