Photoshop help

Ok so I bought Photoshop elements 6. I wanted to make sigs and avatars and stuff but I have NO CLUE what Im doing. I can add words to pictures and stuff I figured that out but, how do you add a screenshot to dominons template or anything else for that matter? How Do you make backrounds transparent? Can I make flash stuff with this program too? All the tools have no explanationn and the help thing is worthless. Can antone send me in the right direction?
