Okay i am new to Windows Vista, {Former XP user}. My question is Windows Defender needed if i already have Norton Internet Security? Should i keep it on or disable Defender?

I have mine disabled. I dont see a need for it if you already have protection.

windows defender is a great free anti spyware program. you can disable it from startup but its a good program to keep and run a couple times a week

Its really useless in alot of ways but it has one really usefull tool. The startup manager allows you to pick what programs start on startup making you pc faster.

If it's actively interfering with something I would turn it off. If not, then just leave it on. You have a powerful enough processor and enough RAM that it's not going to impact performance in any noticeable way, unless you're a hardcore benchmarker trying to squeeze out every point or single FPS.

It would be wise to keep Windows Defender disable, since it slows down your PC. Running occasional scans would be ideal for keeping your PC free of spyware.

If you have anything above a dual core and 2gb of Ram you woulnt notice it running so just leave the thing on. An extra layer of protection never hurts;)
