Hi everyone i was looking into buying a new gpu for my computer i currently have a gts 250, and i would like to get a bit better frame rates. Is the gtx 295 really what it is made up to be?

It's good, but your rig needs to be able to handle it. When I first got mine, I had a Q6700 running at 3.5ghz. The performance was decent, but I didn't really see what it was capable of until I swapped the 6700 for a Q9650 running at 4.05ghz.

I've seen some people with stock rigs where a GTX295 actually ran worse than a lower end card.

I would recommend a gtx285 instead. It will save you quite a bit of money, and it will still get VERY good fps in any game that is currently out...

Wow damn u have an i7 950........expensive stuff right there.
You should still overclock it even though you should be safe from bottlenecking.
I would wait till the next gen cards come out though. Waste your money on those, not on a card thats going to be discontinued pretty soon. The new ones should also be cheaper since they are cheaper to manufacture and they should run much faster.

Yeah with that 950 you should be able to get a 4.0ghz stable overclock in like 10min. If it is a D0 you could probly get 4.2 stable without barely touching your voltages. Are you using the stock cooler on that i7?

My watercooled 920 is OC'd to 4.4ghz with a 1.375 Vcore. On a 950 you can use a 23x multi, and it technically should be a "better" chip because of how they bin these chips.

PM me if you decide to OC, I would be glad to walk you through the process...

Nvidia 295

I have the GTX 295 and it runs great in everything that I have played. Crysis Warhead at 90 fps, Fallout 3 90+ fps, DODS 240+ fps, all maxed out. On line lag is almost non existent, with less than a second slight pulls when others complain of major slowdown. My old computer was a 3.00 Pentium 4 and ATI 3850 Agp card. Lag killed me at times. My 295 idles hotter than many cards at 50/48, and in game averages 68/66. These temps are all normal for the 295. The reviewers loved this card and so do I. It was worth every penny.

My godd i wish i was rich.........that is a sick setup you got going there but i would overclock that i7 extreme much higher than that. Come on man if you only wanted 3.8ghz you could have gotten an i7 920 and got the same performance. The extreme is meant to go like 4.3ghz and up

Hey PewPewBangBang,
Digital Storm did the overclocking and this was their recommendation. The i7 965 is a beast for everything from photoshop, digital video, digital audio, etc., without overclocking. I bought the 965 for its speed in using Pro Tools, Cubase and many other CPU hogs common in music studio production. For gaming only an i7 920 would probably be a better choice for overclocking because of its lower cost.

Ahhh i see, you didnt build it yourself, my fault. Yea i guess for what you do its fine at stock speeds, its fast enough already at those speeds. Digital storm was probably taking into consideration, life longevity and safeness and such.

exactly as others said ur cpu needs to be good too because most of the time its limited by the cpu, but if u have a good one go for it, its an a amazing card.

there honestly shouldnt be any problems running a single card like the GTX 295 or a 4870x2 if you have a quad core at a decent speed. You really only start bottlenecking when your either using an old duo core processor or you quadfire or tri-sli or something like that. There have been reviews on 2x4870x2 and 2xgtx 295 and they were using just a simple i7 but it was only clocked at 3.0ghz. They bottlenecked only on some games and it still ran fine when it was bottlenecking.

I have a Q6600 at 3.7ghz, nothing like the processors some of you have but its enough to run a single gtx 295.

Lol if you need someone to take that 250 off of your hands, PM me...
Been looking for a new GPU :D
