Verify your Steam account

If you get tricked into giving someone your account info, they won't be able to change your password (steal your account) without logging into your e-mail and confirming it. This way, the worst they could do is log in and play games.

Once you get an e-mail telling you that your password was trying to be changed, then you will say to yourself "Oh, that guy I gave my password to actually WASN'T a Valve employee after all!". Then, naturally, you will change your password, therefore saving your account from doom.

ya and the next big thing becuase the account cant be stolen now is to hack accounts and get them vac banned

Gotta be careful now.. they are gonna ask you for your Email address and your password to your email in addition to your Steam Login and Password. I had it happen to me a few minutes ago.

Namewitheld: Hello my name is Steve with Valve account services, We are currently revamping our system in order to protect users from account phishing.
=(eGO)=™ Mediarocker: Oh Really? That's cool.
Namewithheld: In order for us to protect your account due to the new system, we require use of your Email and Steam account and their associated Passwords.
=(eGO)=™ Mediarocker: Ok, well my email is [email protected] and my password is !tsolteg. Its the same for both.
Namewithheld: Wait, you're a valve employee?
=(eGO)=™ Mediarocker: Yeah, wouldn't you have guessed?
Namewithheld is now offline.

Hey Rellik, I found a way to protect your steam account from hackers and phishers. just goto steam file -> settings and put this as your contact email:
[email protected]

kinda fishy....

Do you have to verify a new email using the same method of password changing? If not, a half competent phisher will change contact email asap and the verifications means nothing.

It might be a good idea to have two separate passwords for your Steam account and email client...

I would guess that you would receive a code in your current email that is necessary to change email.
