Common sense or hilariously effective strategy?

I call it baiting or trapping or luring. Amazingly effective, ten times more so when you put your sentry in an unusual (and thus unexpected) spot.

I find it quite amusing that, while being engineer, if you run toward the enemy and then proceed to retreat as if you have been startled into retreating by the presence of the enemy, they will follow you to their untimely death as you round the corner and they follow you into an awaiting sentry gun. Does anyone else use this strategy?

Here's what happens when I'm that enemy.

1) Engaged by engi
2) Two rockets, boom boom

3) Three more rockets

Same here. And it's not an effective strategy against people who are not brain-dead. I kill Engineers before they even reach their gun, and I rid their gun of existence whilst they are dead.

It's common sense.

you dont even need to be engy or have sg around to do this in blackmesa all the time i will push up on spawn with a solly or heavy and when i take some damage i will retreat the the stairs or blastdoors where there is a sg or a demo ironhorsing than rinse and repeat

I generally do the engies a favor by risking my own butt as a spy. Too many people will follow the single, weak spy because he's... single and weak. Little do they know that it is Burning Shadow, and that he is neither alone nor weak. :)

I like taunting on the "safe" side of one way gates. Then the other guy taunts back (usually) and I run out and kill him. So satisfying :)
