what cpu coolers fit AM3 processors? on newegg im only seeing LGA 775/1366 or socket 940 or whatever. but whats a good cpu cooler for phenoms?

Not true at all unless it's an OEM computer (Dell, HP, etc.) that forbids tinkering with the internals. If it is an OEM computer than upgrading the heatsink won't do you much good anyway because you wont' be overclocking and the stock heatsink is perfectly adequate for stock speeds.

All AM2 and AM2+ coolers will fit AM3. I would read some reviews to find something good in your price/performance area. The Techpowerup review database is an excellent resource.

Here is a great one a buddy of mine has on the AM3, he went from a cheapo one , to an OCZ vendetta, to this Coolermaster V8 and temps dropped greatly each time he switched.

Go to Microcenter if you have one close to you. They have a huge selection and the prices are very comparable , in some cases better than the egg.

BTW, they dont have the Arctic Freezer 64 pro at microcenter, just a ugly little slim one. But they do have the OCZ vendetta which was about the same price at only 30 bucks. Again, i know someone who used each of em (the V8 and OCZ) and both worked excellent, the V8 gave him 4-5 degrees off of the OCZ.

And dont forget the Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. Good stuff.

i suggest you read the warranty next time you buy a stand alone CPU. Direct quote from mine:

2. Use only the heatsink/fan provided. Use of any other heatsink/fan will void the warranty.

TRUE! but ya am2+/am3 are all compatible so whatever am2+ cooler you find will do just as well

Yes, the CM V8 works excellent on AM3. Any am2 cooler does work on am3 as said above.

WARNING! Do NOT get the coolermaster v8 if you have an antec 900 or anything smaller or simmalar. It will NOT fit. It is simply too big. Get an xigmantec dark knite. Smaller, cools better, and $20 cheaper!
