The Wilhelm Scream

I don't know about you guys, but I love this kind of thing.

The Wilhelm scream is a sound effect that has existed since the 1950's and has been utilized in a lot of really popular movies. Whenever I hear it I always get a laugh.

Yeah me either, I hate it when movies use it excessively though. It just starts to get on my nerves.

I am so smart. I knew I kept hearing that scream in a lot of films. I remember watching King Kong (The latest one) and this guy fell off the cliff and he did that scream. I am so proud of myself right now.

Yea they are called "stock sound effects" I believe. If you have ever played the original command and conquer, the sound of a man dieing is used extensivly as well, same with alot of sounds from animals dieing. For instance I heard the sound of a camel dieing in Age of Empires 2, then again the movie the Mummy

I've seen that clip before and know of the Wilhelm scream, but in that clip I can't help but think that towards the end they are super-imposing it in lol.

omg, i would have to agree spitfire, it certainly has an annoyingly distinctive tone and i cant recall that scream in some of those movies but perhaps i am mistaken.

Ha, I've known of this for a long time, mainly because of Star Wars. I seem to recall hearing that Star Wars kind of brought the scream its fame originally (although it came from the 50's or whenever), then Ben Burtt started using it in everything, then pretty soon other sound people started using it.
