l4d fps lag

whenever i first join a game in Left 4 Dead, im only getting 15-25 fps, but if i alt+tab out, then back in, i get 60.
does anyone know how to fix that, or what causes that?

List which graphics card you use and whether you are using a crossfire setup. My 4870x2 would often take a dive in fps in some games and would need an alt+tab to revive.

That's curious, if you haven't already, try a driver update. Otherwise, I would try adjusting graphics settings for L4D, turning off multi-core rendering and AA/AF.

lol i wouldnt turn off multi core rendering, my cpu sucks. and i mean it suuuuucks.
and whatever, i want to play it on max, and so im just fine alt+tabbing out then back in.

You could at least try it, not like it's going to hurt anything. I've had friends who solved their lag/fps problems by turning off this setting.
