Update for 9/29:
I think stats are finally doing better! yay! You can check out a larger update over at my eGO blog:

(This is also a link in my sig, the stats part of it, obviously...)

Update for 9/6:
I've spent the last week digging into the internals of the stats application and looking for ways to make it scale better. I've been working closely with the team that is maintaining the stats app and they've accepted me as a developer for the project.
The good news is that things seem to be working a bit better, as you may have noticed. I think there's still probably some room for improvement, so don't be surprised if it is still not responding over the next few weeks as I work the kinks out.

Probably many of you have noticed that the player ranking system and the in-game stats are having issues. Dominion, Kendle, and I are working on the problem and trying to come to a conclusion.
Essentially, this program was not at all designed for a group as large as eGO. There are something on the order of 10 million rows in one of the major tables for the stats application. The databases total size weighs in around 3GB today. And that's really just 2 or 3 weeks worth of data.
Some of the stats pages are literally bringing our database server to its knees. I'm trying different techniques and optimizations to reduce the I/O load, but the tables are just so massive that we're still having issues. The whole of the system is pretty inefficient, and I've spent the last week or so almost totally devoted to trying to fix it. I sleep, eat, and breathe stats.
I've gotten messages and seen threads about this around the forums, so here's the short and the long of it - we're doing what we can.
PLEASE NOTE: This does NOT effect our global server rankings through GameTracker, that's a totally different system that is handled outside of eGO. This system is private to eGO and is JUST for 'fun' for you guys.
