looking for a new monitor

i am looking for the new monitor. nothing crazy i just want good solid monitor for a good price and 24" minimum

If you have the cash to burn, go for it. Otherwise, I'd look elsewhere.

If you are going to buy a large monitor, don't get one with built in speakers, the sound is almost always tinny and rather quiet. Just run over to a tech store and buy a 20 dollar pair of speakers.

you people are looking at the speakers as if i dont have them or need them. i use headphones i have 2 speakers plus 5.1 surrund sounds from my tv hooked up to my comp. speakers are a non issue and in my eyes they are a bonus. and for the contrast ratio yes it is low. but i have a TV next to me that has 10,000 to 1 and if i am watching movies in which would be the only place where i would care about the darkest of the darks and brightest of the whites. and for gaming i do not need a very good ratio. it has a HDMI and thats is a huge plus so

P.S. if you dont think that monitor is up to par please post one that you think is up to ur.....stature

For a good price, consider looking up the 24" Asus monitor, it's on newegg. 2ms response time, great quality.

You guys are confusing Dynamic Contrast with Static Contrast. If you look on newegg, there is another hanns-g that has the same panel as the one linked above, and the panel has a DC of 15000:1.

Don't be fooled by the way different brands market their monitors. 800:1 and 50000:1 are different tests, one of them is not simply 42000 better than the other.

That being said, the hanns g you linked is a nice monitor for the price. I should know, I'm typing this review on one! It is a TN panel, and is therefore limited in the color and view angle like all TN panels are. If you are using this just for web browsing and gaming, it is a beauty! If you are doing image or video editing, look elsewhere.

One thing to note with a screen this size. I get nauseous if I play TF2 at full screen. I never thought about this, and I've never had this problem on any other game or screen, but it's just really darn big.

Other than that, I couldn't be happier. Phenomenal price. Good color. Very fast response, no ghosting or input lag at all. The viewing angles are good enough for me. No backlight bleeding either. Don't let monitor snobs fool you, hanns g makes a great TN panel. I also have a 19" that sits vertically next to my 28", and it has been going strong for two years.

Make sure you have the space for it if you order this, it is much bigger than you think.

A nice ASUS 20-24" is also a good choice. Those are great for running dual or even triple. I prefer the 19-28-19 setup (gonna add the 19 around christmas time, shhh don't tell my fiancee), but that's just me.

You wont see a difference in a 2ms and 5 ms monitor. Do some googling and you'll see why. I use the Asus 23.6" 1080p w/HDMI, got it for like $180. Excellent monitor, ordered 2 of em and one had zero dead pixels, the other had like 3 or 4, nothing to worry about as it is hardly noticeable. They do make a 24" 2ms for about $40 more if you must...

thanks! once I get another 19" on the right side, the dream will be complete. I like to site directly in front of my main screen, and have some extra on the side to keep chat windows, itunes, file windows, and the like. The hard part is getting them situated just so. Then you also have to play with how the computer lines them up so things flow from side to side, but once you get it going, it's awesome.

Welcome to tech talk cornbread. As a general guideline, try to provide a little more info than this when recommending something to another person.

We get that you own a westinghouse, and that you like it, but should someone really buy it for the reasons of "they're very good, trust me"?

Why are they good? Have you had zero problems? How long have you owned it for? Does it have a nice picture, do well in gaming, look nice on the desktop, or is it priced well? Give us a little more meat to help the person that is actually going to go out and drop hard earned cash on a new product.

Just saying, "it's good, trust me" isn't very helpful.

Ryken has very good points. If you need what he listed (uses, etc) then go for that hansG, it looks like an excellent monitor. 800:1 is a good ratio and I'd like to see anyone tell the difference between a 1000:1 and a 800:1 in a blind test. The TN panels are very good for gaming. If you are looking for more of a mix between gaming and video/photo look into some PVA panel monitors (Planar is one brand that uses them). These will not have the super low response time of the TN's but will render colors and the image better then the TN panel monitors.

I personally love gaming but also enjoy seeing great quality in my movies and photos when I work (my business). I went with an IPS panel for this. My response time may be "high" at 16ms but I rarely see the response lag when I am gaming, and when I do it is a minor thing. If you want true colors, excellent text, and a wide viewing angle then go with the IPS panel. Mine is this NEC. The price may seem a bit high, but once I got it it has been worth every penny these past 9 months.

I had to throw this in ryc Ryken. 19-28-19 sounds excellent! I'm personally hoping to eventually get 24-30-24 with my NEC but I need another $3k to make it happen lol.

Holy crap, I thought my S-IPS 20WMGX2 was pretty good. Looks like I`m not the only one. You would be surprised at how high the latency can get before you notice. 8ms is easily NOT noticeable to most people.
