I don't mean for this to offend, but this is not a big deal. Costs are going to go up and as a result price will have to as well. It's a fact of life.

If you don't want to pay for a product then don't, but actively campaigning to convince other people to do the same is a form of politics, which at least for me is not what this community is about.

It's different. It's not just about COD6, but about other games and how Video Game economy would change.

I do believe this is reason for alarm. If prices continue to go up now, think about, like he said, when the next gen console comes out and development prices go up. We could be talking about 80, 90, even 100 dollar games. This cannot go on, I've already spent a huge chunk of my earned money on games, and I don't want that to go down the drain. MW2 is going down the same dark path that EA did with spore, a path of alienated consumers who don't want to support the company for one reason or another. Forget buying pre-owned games, I can see MW2 becoming one of the most pirated games ever. This business model will destroy Activision.

The hard thing about this, is that I'm really looking forward to MW2. I mean, stay all night out in a tent in front of best buy. No matter how badly I want to support this cause, I can't. I have to have this game.



(Also, an ironic thing. When I got Gear of War 2, what he was talking about when he was talking of the incentive to buy new games, well, I got that game used on the day it came out, not even taken out of the plastic. Apparently some grandparent bought it for their child not understanding it was M, so the parents made them take it back before he even opened it. I lucked out.)

And well, at least there will be A LOT of seeds for MW2. An alternative is buy the CD key at when MW2 comes out and it'll be a lot more cheaper than 90 bucks.

Actually the main problem I see is that production costs should (and usually do) go down with a sequel. Because, then you're just building on your old engine. Add a little of this, change a little of that, remodel, new map, voice acting. You have a new game. It's cheaper than the ground up approach where they have to code the engine for w/e system that's newly out.

Greed is a terrible thing.

Also, boycotts are effective means of organizing people with similar beliefs and rallying others to the cause ;P

The problem with trying to boycott it is that it's very hard to get enough people together to make a big enough difference that the company will care. Especially for a big game like MW2, which will probably sell millions regardless.

Activision/IW are going to make a lot more money than they paid for production of the game. Now their excuse is exactly what you said. They're just greedy. They have no valid reason to raise the price to 55€

Its over 90 bucks. Average price for a PC game, 50 bucks. With those extra 30 or so much you can buy a meal, movie for 2, another game, etc.

Uh, we have never had to up the price before. Why start now, every other time technology has upgraded they have found new ways to develop games with newer engines. They are going to be swimming in money by the time they sell it, they dont need any more. They already said that its going to be "the best selling game of all time", it's not that the need the money it's that they WANT the money.

Sorry, but upping the price in a recession to help the people that are making the money instead of the people that are trying to save the money is just stupid.

Everyone is greedy, its what drives the market. You say they have no valid reason to raise the price? How about to make more money? With the economy the way it is you have to expect prices to raise. If you really care that much that the increased the game by the price of a few take out pizzas then keep it to yourself because the economy is part of politics and politics are not part of eGO.

In short greed is what keeps our market going, it exists in every person, get used to it. You call them greedy for raising the price, they can call you greedy for not wanting to spend a few more dollars on a quality product.

If you don't like it you don't have to spend the money on it, that's how the market goes. But don't try to rally people to your cause here.
