Gordon Freeman is without a doubt, a greater hero. He stands alone, he needs not the help of magic and fairies. Not to mention, he actually knows who the hell he is.
Link's persona isn't strong enough to carry from game to game. One minute he's a chibi cell-shaded child, the next he's a full fledged adult with a normal sized head. He also seems to forget and have to relearn a majority of his skills every time they throw him into a new scenario.
Not the case for Gordon Freeman. He knows who he is. With the exception of a slight modification to his HEV suit, our man's skills, wit, and appearance remain unchanged and unchallenged. His talents remain so reliable, that he can be warped THROUGH TIME after sleeping in a black stasis field somewhere in a gap of the universe, thrown into a completely new world with new boundaries, and still walk away as the one Free Man - so long as he's got his crowbar, and the ability to jump and crouch.
Link's legend is definately an admirable one. But his indecisiveness and constant change in both age, appearance, arsenal, and ability - make him a definate second to Gordon Freeman.
Granted, Gordon will probably lose. I hope he doesn't, but he probably will.
Regardless, though. Gordon will persevere. That's why he's awesome and carries a crowbar. And Link wears tights.

@ Carmine. I never said I didn't like Gordon Freeman; however, I idolize Link more. This 8bit sprite is something I made and want to display. I cannot make an 8bit link b/c Nintendo made it
I have yet to see a game where you don't get the help of NPCs to fight. Some parts of HL2 are very hard w/o the help of the NPCs.

Link saves a Monarchy that relies on a little kid to save it from an antagonist that doesn't really even seem all that evil. Freeman fights against untold horrors for the preservation of freedom.

And here i made this with the intent of bringing more freeman voters to the poll...
eh, oh well, Freeman made quite a comeback today and even though is still 4% off he is doing much better than yesterday.
Also people, even though they are both mutes they are different game characters. people will like different ones better on their opinions, which a paragraph-long post on the internet is doubtful to change. So there is no need to argue over who is better, just vote and root for your character.
also, if you voted for link your not a good person... just kidding.
but if those of you that think gordon will lose but vote for him anyways, it is that kinda attitude that makes problems in the first place! be happy for who you voted. or don't, which-ever you prefer.
people thought gordon would lose to Snake 2 rounds ago, and look where that got them. Gordon has a way of getting the votes to beat the winning opposition at the last moments...

Let's try and keep in mind that anything from me isn't meant to criticize the opinions or viewpoints of others. It's all in good fun, and because I think it's hilarious.
More reasons why Freeman deserves to win over Link:
Link follows the imaginary voices of glowing blue things and tries to catch them so that next time he dies (which he will), he gets another chance at using whatever weapon he found in the dungeon to beat the boss.
-Freeman sees a glowing blue thing and thinks it best to launch a big damn missle at it to save the entire planet.
Link needs constant upgrades to his sword, or else it won't even damage a good portion of his enemies.
-Freeman likes his crowbar just fine, and still manages to knock the crap out of various extra terrestrial/dimensional armies.
Link shoots arrows, and hope they hit his enemies.
-Freeman throws exploding barrels, toilets, sinks, radiators, or just about anything else he finds laying around. Sometimes, he also shoots rockets.
Link throws a boomerang, and hope it hits his enemies.
-Freeman pulls out his upgraded gravity gun, and simply throws his enemies.
Link wears a man skirt and tights. Sometimes he skips the tights.
-Freeman wears an HEV suit.
Link's feet are strange.
-Freeman has regular human feet.
Link's name does not yield cool results when typed into google image search.
-Freeman's name when typed into google image search brings up not only cool looking pictures of himself, but also Morgan Freeman - who is awesome. And may be a long lost relative of his.
