Microphone disables in source games

When I launch any "source engine" based game my mic is disabled, and when I go out of game I have to re-enable it to get it to work. Any ideas? I am running Windows 7 64bit. All help is appriciated.

Or maybe this might work...
Go to "Recording Devices", right click your Speaker thing in your tray at the right of your task bar. Click Recording Devices. Double click the microphone you use. Go to Advanced. Make sure both options in exclusive mode are checked.

If that doesn't work... do you have Realtek as your sound driver manufacturer? I'm pretty sure most people do, and if you do...

Create a System Restore Point on your PC.
Go to: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/
Click the Audio Codecs link.
Agree to the Terms of Service.
Choose: Vista, Windows7 Driver(32/64 bits) Driver only (Executable file)
Or you could choose the zip file version...should be same file.
Install.
If anything goes wrong with the new driver. You can use a system restore to roll back.

If that doesn't work... what model of PC do you have?

I have Windows 7 x64 too :O and that sounds odd to me :O Do you have your Driver Software installed on your PC? As in a Program that manages your sound device. Like the one I said previously. If you have realtek, do what I said before.

To the OP:
Try what Furiosity suggested in his first post. Maybe leave the installing of a different audio driver until we have some more information; up to you though.

If that doesn't work, could you please:

1. Verify that your mic is working.
   • Do this by going Control Panel >> Sound >> Recording Tab.
   • Talk into your mic, and make note of which set of bars is moving.
2. Open a Source Engine based game (Preferably one where you have encountered this problem).
3. Verify that your mic does not work in game.
4. Alt+Tab out of the game.
5. Go Control Panel >> Sound >> Recording Tab.
6. Talk into your mic (make sure it isn't muted manually).

Is the same set of bars moving as in step 1?

Thanks for all the help, I fixed it by using the "exclusive use" check boxes in combination of changing my heaset to the front audio and mic ports.

My friend got same problems. When his steam sending client info to the server his mic turns off.
Usually He just press record and his mic backs online.
