Well, it also depends on who you kill and how you kill as well as who kills you.

Since you're rank 5,000 or so...
If someone ranked 150,000 kills you, you'll lose ~25 points. If someone ranked 10 kills you, you'll lose ~2 points.
If you kill someone ranked 150,000, you'll gain ~2 points. If you kill someone ranked 10, you'll gain ~25 points.

Those points you gain are also modified based on how you kill the person. Rockets have a modifier of 1 while deflected flares have a modifier of 20.
Kill that rank 10 with a rocket and it's 25 points, kill them with a deflected flare and it's 500 points.

So if you want more points, kill higher ranked people with weapons that are more difficult to use and don't die to people who are ranked lower than you.

with a kdr of 3-4 you wont go up in rankings mate, dominations and godlike points and captures are the big hitters, I had once around 200 dominations 1.700 kills with a kdr of 10.00, just went up 2200 points, if you want to go up, be a medic and leech from a good heavy, 3 points for each assist, and 5 for each uber, and the dominations will be fast since you dont get killed a lot standing behind that heavy, I remember when Slaazz healed me he went up 2000 points in like 1 hour.

Also the annoying part of dominations is that if the player get a revenge, you actually lose points as well (2 to be exact, which I think shouldnt be but I wont argue about it) and if you get dominated you will lose 5 points. if you want to be very cheap (which I dont do actually, is to switch teams if you dominated 12-14 people, that way the dominations are cleared, you can dominate them again and you wont lose points for that revenge, but if you do that you are really trying xD)

or you could just play and not worry about a stats system that doesnt prove anything or amount to a hill of beans on a conglomeration of public servers

all being a top player on HLStats means is.... you play often in the servers and have points measured out against the HLStats "objective" point system.
