Nvidia GeForce VS. ATI Radeon?

I've had my Nvidia 6500GT card for about 5 years now... (lol i know) and I am yet to see a reason to upgrade it... I get between 50-100 fps still in the most heated battles (On CS:S) and it doesnt overheat or anything. I havent overclocked it or anything either... Dont flame bc I still pwn half of u

Yeah... I had a 6800 gt Like six months ago(could be more) then my chip set fried on that pc, so I upgraded everything. but I had no reason to upgrade as far as performance. I'm glad I did upgrade though. lol


Any way back to the main issue. Either company is great. I have had both for the last 5-7 years... my brother has the ati 5000 card right now and it runs fine for him. (doesn't over clock.)
I have a 280 series nvidia runs fine to (I don't over clock either.)
To me its your choice. can't go wrong either way...

my thoughts anyway.

I think I have made up my mind, for my next build I am looking at getting the Nvidia 285gtx Superclocked edition

Not a bad choice.

Yeah, but the problem is, when those cards first come out they are going to be crazy expensive and no one will know for sure if there are any defects or bugs that need to be worked out, I may get the gtx 295 if they lower the prices on them dramatically.

Lol, it's like that for anything new that comes out. However, they've been spending a lot of time on it. Instead of releasing them at the same time ATI released the 5 series, they decided to wait and perfect the cards before release.

TBH, I'm in no rush to create my dream rig so I'd rather wait.

1st batch of 1st gennies of anything i really do not like to touch(I.E. SSD Drivers), I do not consider my self a pioneer and do not need to have the latest and greatest the day of launch.

Waiting for drivers to mature is the right call, and the GTX285 or even the GTX295 can manhandle any game that is out or will come out in the next 1-2 years....

Just safer really, unless you got lots of extra cash, or benchmarking is a hobby.

Nvidia partnered with Intel to make the Atom which would technically mean they've already made a CPU. Nvidia makes ION boards which are small basic motherboards (integrated cpu, gpu, etc.) that have decent speed and use almost no power.

you know the Fermi are gonna be CPGPU or watever its called (kinda forgot) atleast i think they are from what i remember. Brand new architecture for once haha, they're atleast gonna be faster than the 5850/5870 but i just wanna know by how much because they're coming out so much later than the ATI 5 series.

Right now, I'm runnung an XFX ATI 5870 HD, it replaced my EVGA Nvidia 285 GTX. The ATI stomps it in everything, including price. Plus, it runs on less power and is cooler.

ATI 5970=EPIC, OC of 1000mhz core 1500mhz memory was highest i've seen so far on stock cooling.

I've never really had problems from either end. Granted, I've never owned high end cards until the next generation came out (so drivers were relatively mature). I've owned a Radeon 9250 (cough), an X1800XT 256MB, and I'm currently on an EVGA 8800GTX. The last two I loved.

Personally, I get more value out of Nvidia products, but ATI is cheaper.
I have a ATI Radeon 4200 in my laptop, not the best, but it gets the job done. I can play TF2 at about medium to med-high settings with at least 80-100 fps (according to xfire). I've actually tried to play crysis on it. I actually got 15-30 fps (surprisingly, knowing its a laptop).
