Overclocking?

If your lucky your processor will be a nice OC'er and you can keep your Vcore on your default. CPUS all have different VIDs (default vcore).

I love the q6600 for the fact that I kept my default voltage yet went from 2.4ghz to 3ghz, with stock cooler even. (g0 stepping ftw) Since I didn't have to change the voltages I pretty much kept the same temps.

I wouldn't recommend ocing on a stock cooler for many other cpus other than the known good overclockers, 920 etc.

Oc'ing on a 920 would be a somewhat bad idea also.....temperatures wise, it gets extremely hot on the stock cooler.

My G0 stepping got me to 3.83ghz before running into a temperature barrier. I backed it down to 3.6ghz 24/7 and got temps of 60C load. That system is gone now though, sold for $350 and upgraded to i7 920 :) only paid the difference of like $200 to get a i7 920 so i couldn't pass that up.

A 920 is good to at least 3.2 on stock cooler.

Just turn up the cpu fsb to 333 for 3 ghz. going from 2.5 to 3.0 isn't huge. It may seem like alot to you, but its not. You may think i don't want it that high because i might break something etc. The reality is you will only break your cpu if your a master overclocker and are going for that 4.5 ghz+. From 2.5 to 3.0 you wont be anywhere close to breaking your cpu or frying it.

It's not the Mhz that get you, it's the volts.
