you mean bad as in good, right?
I will be on during headstart and beyond. I will be playing either an Andorian Science Officer on a Science Vessel or an Alien Science Officer on said vessels.
Ships are to be named USS Hawking or USS Sagan, and will most likely be NX-900022-A and up (B, C, D).
Anyone here, feel free to add me to friends: @QuelessQuest
He probably meant bad as in bad. I can't blame him though as I even have a great deal of concerns with STO despite loving the way they did space combat.
Outside of the major story arc missions, i.e. the really important missions, the content's repetitiveness is borderlining on the extreme.
Using the CO engine to create the game has create a very closed off feeling with space.
Space feels like it is chopped up into cubes known as space sector blocks and don't feel connected or vast at all.
The game is extremely linear and there's absolutely no feeling that you are exploring, finding new planets and going where no one has gone before. (every time I go to some supposedly unexplored piece of "wild space" for the "explore" missions, I end up going into an unknown system only to find out that there's a
Federation base that's been there for years that is suddenly under attack by the Klingons. There are 3 or 4 different scenarios that they switch around to give the illusion of being unique but it fails all the way around.)
The story arcs are nice and decently made, but outside of that, the game content is extremely bland, repetitive, and feels more like COH or CO moreso than it does Star Trek.
Klingons are a complete disaster. No content whatsoever despite being promised in the past by Cryptic that they would be in the game and flush with content. Now they're strictly PvP-oriented and then in a patch leveling by way of PvP was nerfed so the only way for Klingons to level is now screwed.
One big complaint I hear from many people is that the game is all combat and nothing else and it is true. Even though the game is called Star Trek and we are playing as part of the Federation, with the all-out war atmosphere and the fact that 98% of the game is shoot first and warp out later, it feels more like we are part of the Terran Empire instead (yes I've looked up things on Memory Alpha). There's next to zero in the diplomacy department, only a few scattered missions here and there that attempt to show that you are capable of talking to someone and resolving differences through dialogue rather than shooting them with a phaser.
Cryptic made a terrible attempt at putting crafting in the game and it is virtually non-existent. Sure you scan and harvest anomalous readings to your hearts content, but face it, you're never going to use them because nothing worthwhile will ever come out of crafting but whites that are worse than everything under the sun that you'll loot by killing Klingons, Romulans, Cardassians, etc. and by turning in PvP/exploration tokens.
I have hardcore Star Trek buddies that are going to get this simply because it's Star Trek and despite my many concerns (these were just the ones I could remember off the top of my head), I am going to play the game simply because of them, because I did really enjoy combat in space
when I was in a group, and lastly, because there is nothing beyond this game to play until SW:TOR comes out.
Now I
hope that Cryptic can somehow miraculously fix the majority of these problems but with the many limits of the very engine they used to create STO, I cannot see much of this being rectified at all. Here's to hoping that space combat at the very least stays unscathed and largely untweaked.
Lastly, I sincerely hope, specifically for those who did the lifetime sub that Cryptic pulls this off for them because I really cannot see how far STO can go with what they have shown and this is all coming from someone who was halfway through the Captain rank.
Simple as that. :facewall:
