TF2 Blog update: Regular players: 1, Idlers: 0

The item drop system changed today. For starters:

Instead of getting an item every 30 minutes or so, it now roll on WHEN you get the next item. So it should fix those, like me, who go a while without getting a thing.

The rate has increased a lot

There's a max limit of play time. Playing an hour or for the whole day will get you items and so will those who play on and off.

Which means if anyone here idles, they'll end up getting fewer items than before.

http://www.teamfortress.com/post.php?id=3727&p=1

Now see, I idled a bit, and I actually got items FAR less than every 25 minutes, more like every 2 hours. And this was while playing in idle server with others who weren't idle

I have 3420.9 Hours in TF2 total. 1000 of those hours were earned by actually playing (before hats). I think I know what I'm talking about when it comes to idling.

People cried about idling because it gave some sort of "unfair advantage". I'd like to see this advantage because last time I checked the weapon unlocks were sidegrades, not upgrades. And hats do not change any stats to a specific character.

I can see where Valve's coming from. Achievement_Idle was the most played map in the TF2 universe for a good 3 months. Thats something that no game developer would want to see. But to say that your drop (as a player) was earned and my drop (as an idler) is lesser of yours is a huge insult.

Whatever, haters gonna hate. I'll own 18 hats and I'm close to a 19th hat. I hope every hatless rager who reads my post sees me in game wearing a tower of hats and rage even more. Its funny to me

lolumad.

And I'm jealous of xosniper's handless handstand.

but....I did a handstand with no hands :crying:

edit: I only poke fun because idling or no idling, hats or pointless and only a

yet your avatar has a hat on... hippocrate (a really heavy hippo shaped crate)

Who cares if you idle?! It is a bunch of pixels. I idled to get a couple hats because healing people with my mirror makes the game more enjoyable for me. If the means to get a hat is out there, USE IT! Don't QQ about not having a single hat when in a week you could get one. Just leave your computer on overnight. If not idling makes you a purist, then great I will have fun waltzing around turtlbine in my "tainted" pretty hats while you whine about Random Number Generation. I honestly can't believe that this topic gets so much attention. They are pixels! If you are solely playing TF2 to find a hat then you should take a step back and think real hard why you are playing.

The title should be regular players: 0 hats, Idlers: 1+

The irony in all this, is that I gave in and began idling yesterday. They bring out this update today! Good grief! Luckily, I managed to score a Ushanka... right before the update to realize why those idlers were doing what they were doing all this time.

The unfair part is that the idlers got a head start in obtaining most of the hats. Too bad they didn't implement this much sooner. I feel that the damage has been done.

Of course I'm saying unfair because I didn't start sooner and hitting myself in the head as of now :chair: :P

Idlers zero? I think you mean Regular Players: 1 Idlers: 5000. They've gotten much more hats and items that regulars have :(

I'm glad for this update though, I can proudly say I have NEVER idled, not even once :)

I think i love Valve! Thanks for doing this, i can honestly say ive never idled, EVER!

Also, i HAVE NEVER RECEIVED A STUPID HAT, EVER! (Except Halo :))

actually if you look at it... its about regular players: 1 idlers: 50 because of all the items and hats they already got :P

Today's progress:

Idled for enough items to make a random hat: Soldier's Stash
-> Crafted it with Vintage Tyrolean: Glengarry Bonnet
-> Crafted my old Fro with my idled Magistrate's Mullet: Hustler's Hallmark

Now I can get another bad hat to craft that with the Glengarry for something else.
