I need a AM3 cpu fan that is VERY quiet. Any recommendations?

Well Artimus, im no expert on fans, but i would take a look at this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835109021

or

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835200038

The first one you suggested is designed for socket LGA1366, so that's out of the question.

One of the best ones you can get is this:

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/9...ket_AM2_AM3_775_1366_1156.html?tl=g48c369s881

or

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/5...1156_775_AM2_AM2_AM3_Xeon.html?tl=g48c369s881

Both are very quiet and cool the CPU down extremely efficiently. The second one is a bit cheaper though.

Of course, we need to know if you have a budget. :)

Oops, didnt see that >.>

and yes, budgets help out a lot.

The Hyper 212+ ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...03065&cm_re=hyper_212+-_-35-103-065-_-Product ) is an incredible value for the price, and it is quite quiet.

According to Newegg, the dBa is 13- 32, so the Rosewill one posted earlier is more quiet, but if you're willing to spend ~22 extra you can purchase this Noctua fan(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...08004&cm_re=noctua_fan-_-35-608-004-_-Product).

For me the fan is very quiet, the only fans I hear in my case are the case fans.

This one seems to be quite powerful, VERY quiet, and priced right; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103057

I would suggest a Cooler Master 212+ Cooler with a Noctua NF-P12-1300 fan.

Honestly though, the stock fan isn't all that loud, but if you want silent noctua is the way to go.

If you feel like spending more money, the Corsair H50 is an option. (again for maximum quiet use the noctua fan)

LOL nice sig. There are ninjas in your computer.
But really? The 3850 with your 1055T? Come on.

But the Cooler Master Hyper 212+ is the best option (if your case can fit it) with a Noctua fan.

1. yes i have ninjas that put dust into my case. Its really annoying

2. The 212+ fit in my tiny mid-tower, it will probably fit in arti's

True, but it wouldn't fit in my case. That's why I said it.

O_o I'm pretty sure that the 300 is bigger, at least it looks bigger (I have a 300 sitting in my room, that my bro is using)

I know this, we've talked about it on Steam before.
But yeah, I measured the distance from the motherboard to the side panel, and took the length of the HSF, and there was about ~.2 inches clearance. That's not enough to say it can fit.

Noctua makes THEE quietest. Take a look around at those Artimus, a but pricey but well worth it. I use the se1366 and love it. Though it did swap the stock fans for some Scythe 110cfm's , i used the Noctua fans in my case. those guys are $20 a piece.

BASS, you couldn't fit a 212+ in your 300? Mine fit EASILY ... I just could not stand the mounting system , very annoying. Works very very well with my ASUS 1156 board setup. Fan idles at 667 rpm and gets to 1700 underload such as gaming. Otherwise, the machine is totally silent all day .

Thank you for all the suggestions. I'm thinking about one of these with the following concerns:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...r_master_intel_core_i7-_-35-103-057-_-Product

The compatibility specs state AMD Phenom X4 Quad Core (I assume AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 965 would be OK) but don't specifically say AM3.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608016&Tpk=noctua nh-u9b se2

This configuration, with separate fans and heatsink, is not something I've dealt with before and compatibility specs say that a "backplate" is required. That's scaring me a bit.

taken from cooler master's website, that first cooler you listed will be compatible with AM3 chipsets
http://www.coolermaster-usa.com/product.php?category_id=1623&product_id=2879

the backplate comes with the cooler as an optional part (if you have AM3 chipset) and there should be good instructions included in the box on how to attach the cooler and backplate to the motherboard.

Also, for the noctua cooler, dont worry about putting the fans onto the cooler itself. The cooler comes with a couple "rails" for the fans to sit on.

Heres a picture of the rails that come with the cooler.

Its really easy to assemble, and its tool-less. Again, the noctua cooler is quieter than the cooler master that you had decided on, so I will recommend you stick with noctua.

as a noctua user I would highly recommend their CPU fans. they are very quiet and cool your CPU great.
